It should be up to individuals if they tan or not. I don't think dancers should be critised for using tan. If they want let them, otherwise don't use it. -- Australian Irish Dancing Message Board

Not true!! Natural skin is preferred in ballet and opera and other theatre genres. Irish dancing doesn't even use theatre lighting - it is just a big hall lit like a normal room. The lighting in Irish dancing does not change skin colour the way theatre lighting does (NT) -- --, Wed, Oct 14 2009, 7:30:28"

exactly I have never seen theatre lighting that changed someone blue or green without it being a washout colour - in which case everything has a wash of colour over it. Even at Nationals they use standard lightings, not theatre stage performance lighting. So its kinda silly to 'blame' lighting that isn't even being used.
