Last night was the introduction of new characters. There have been some adult parents shown. Some other adults are introduced when they are needed for the story.
As it has been shown, John is the only one helping.Even though he has a sinister side. The other parents have not stepped up. They act like they have no relationship to the young witches.
John still shows some compassion for Cassie, but he has a BAD side which came out last night. Yet, he is still the prominent influence for the group.
If John is given a prominent position, why would you want him off? From what I can see no other adult can measure up to Joe's acting and interpreting abilities.

If I dared, I would say that Joe has vampirized the series. His character is certainly the most complex, mysterious and best written of the series. And his interpretation is just incredible, so intense. Above all, he makes his character believable, not ridiculous when he uses magic.
And for a light side, the first scene with Cassie was touching. It was so incongruous to see John Blackwell propose a minigolf, to his daughter. LOL. I'm dying to see this part, each using his powers to win.
As for the survival of his character, I think the writers are capable of everything. They kill their characters easily. Now, only Joe knows.

Agree with you both. I can't remember how excited I have been to watch this show before Joe started as Blackwell. Now, if his character couldn't be in the show, I would feel so sad. I believe the ratings would go way down too. When the other parents were in the show, it was usually one or more hurting another character, or yes, killing someone off. They did not interact much with the star -teens of the show the way Blackwell does. And, not one of the parents have showed an interest in their OWN child the way Blackwell has, other than possibly Ethan. Loved seeing some of that evil side come out of Blackwell last night. Joe must have had such a good time taping this episode. He was extraordinary in it. Looking forward to seeing what else will happen in Chance Harbor.
