I remember that attack by the Baader Meinhof gang.
Still have the newspaper clipping from the Stars 'n Stripes.
The German fire dept. made it to the fire before our own response team and actually fought the fire while the SAT and BAF trained weapons on them. They should have said "fight your own damn fires, if you don't point your weapons somewhere else".
It didn't mention that the HAWK guards opened fire on the Polizei who were trying to get to the POL dump where the tank was burning. The Polizei got out of the volkswagen and was shooting back with sidearms, not knowing it was the guards because it was so dark.
Despite the bullets flying around, no one got hurt.
I was on Reserve force that night but only half the force was deployed and the fun was over by the time anybody got there.
We went on High Alert and deployed to the field. I remember we were issued ammo and one guard opened fire on a boar running down the road that didn't respond to his challenge to "halt".
Once again, no pigs were hurt.
Makes you wonder how we got all those sharpshooter medals.
