as noted in previous postings I was in A battery 3/79th '74 to '75. RATTRIG operator. I have recently been in contact with several other Hard Chargers and it was a bittersweet moment to experience. Joe Hill, a roommate, after serving 25 years and retiring was called back up and is currently in Bagdad looking every bit the GI in full gear and camo from a picture I received today. Head low and spirits high, Joe.
Also contacted our battery C.O., Capt. David Zacchetti through his son who is serving. Capt. Z is doing OK working in the Pentagon as a civilian. Apologies were made by me for being a royal pain in the butt back then. Our X.O. "Hank" Stratton has recently retired after making it to 3 stars (I think, at least 2). Google him for an unbelievable career.
Other Zoo members have been in touch and some have moved on to that great forward observing post in the sky and others are living life with that common bond of being brothers-in-arms in Rivers barracks. All a little burnt around the edges from to many nights in the Rendevous club.
I'm going to scan all the pictures I have from then, several dozen, with a link for everyone to view what The Zoo looked like during the early 70's.
Peace,
Tharp
