Hello River Rats,
I was also stationed at Rivers Barracks.Jan 79 to June 1983.
My unit was A Btry 3bn/79FA. I eventually was
section chief of 2nd Firng platoon.
Lots of memories there, most of them pretty good.
Our BC, Captain Nieman, had a good relationship with our
German Comrades across the street. We had a chance to go to one of their large Kasernes, Muenster Lagen Sud I believe.
We got to shoot our M60 machine guns,( most malfunctioned )
and we got to get some very good EOD training and blow stuff up with C-4.
That was a BLAST! ( pun intended )
1Lt Moehler was my favorite platoon leader.
He was a West Pointer so whenever he walked into the orderly room Lt Bartow would say " Alien approaching, Alien approaching "
I think it was the good people I served with that made it the most enjoyable and the fact that what we were doing there was important. ( Corny as that may sound )
If any of my old platoon are out there,
Sgt Borron ( King ), Sp4 Brandon, Pvt Oyola, Pvt Hindricks,
Sgt Atkins, Sgt Wilson, Lt Dragich, Lt Phillips,
Sgt Salazar, Sgt Simpson, Pvt Melton, Sgt Jackson, Pvt Freeman ( probaly still up at the snack bar ) please drop me a line.
Sgt Day, William
