I was also at Rivers from '79 to '83.
I was section chief of Second firing team in Alpha Btry 3/79 FA. I seem to remember a Sgt Bowman but not as first Sgt in Alpha Btry. Was your Dad an 82C? I am thinking he might have been a surveyor. Could be wrong. They say the memory is the second thing to go. I forget what the first thing is.
Did you ever go up to the photo center at Rivers?
It was on the third floor of the same building that had the small PX and barber shop downstairs and the rec center on the second floor. I taught photography there when I was not
doing my regularjob........Keeping the world safe for democracy of course.
You know the rumor was that they had tried to demolish those two bombed out buildings you mentioned. They planted charges and detonated but I hear the building just shook and woould not fall down. Those Germans sure knew how to build stuff.
I'll bet it was interesting growing up overseas as you did.
I was born in 97 General Hospital myself back in 1958.
My Father was stationed there as well. I like to tell folks that Elvis and I were both in Germany at the same time. Of course I was only 2 months old when we left for the states.
I had to learn German all over again when I went back.
If your Dad is the Sgt Bowman from A Btry please tell him I said hello.
