Subject: ¡Felices Fiestas! (2ª Parte)

Hay quienes creen que al decir "Felices Fiestas" lo hacemos por parecer políticamente correctos, o peor aún, por vergüenza a reconocer nuestras propias convicciones. Puede que eso aplique a algunos, pero puede que no a otros. A mi, por ejemplo. Mi experiencia en los Estados Unidos, junto a lo que he vivido en este "Viejo Mundo" me han enseñado que en esta época globalizada ya no podemos pensar como en aquellos tiempos en que las costumbres estaban dominadas por el Cristianismo. Es una realidad que solo los necios o reaccionarios no pueden ver y se aferran a negar los signos de los tiempos. "Todo Cambia" (Panta Rei) diría el filósofo.

Por otro lado, ¿qué puede ser más Cristiano que desear felicidad a todo mundo, incluyendo aquellos que no comulgan con nuestras ideas, creencias o costumbres? Expresar nuestros deseos según nuestro particular modo de pensar es, ténganlo por seguro, la manera más segura de provocar que nuestro mensaje, por bien intencionado que sea, provoque rechazo por aquellos que no comulgan con nuestro credo.

Pongamos por ejemplo aquella festividad inventada por los negros Americanos llamada Kwanza'a. ¿Significa eso algo para los Cristianos? Seguramente que muy poco. Entonces, ¿cómo tomaría yo, Cristiano, el que alguien me dijera "Happy Kwanza'a"? Apuesto que con indiferencia. La misma, creo yo, que mostraría el negro para quien la Navidad es solo época de consumo.

Los musulmanes celebran por estas fechas su "Día del Cordero". ¿Lo sabían? En esta fecha todos los seguidores de Mahoma comparten un cordero: la mitad para su familia y la otra mitad para quien no puede comprarlo. Nadie se queda sin comer.

Por estas fechas los Judíos celebran también su "Hannukah", en la que conmemoran la liberación de su pueblo cautivo por no-sé-que rey asirio.

Y ya que nos vamos a la historia, En estas fechas celebran los escandinavos los 12 días de "Geol", que se convirtieron en 12 días de "Yule" y los Cristianos adaptaron posteriormente como los 12 días de Navidad.

Y si nos remontamos un poco más atras, nos daríamos cuenta que los Cristianos adoptarom precisamente la fecha 25 de Diciembre para cenebrar el nacimiento de Jesús de Nazareth, Jesucristo, para substritir la antigua celebración Romana conocida como "NATALIS SOLIS INVICTUS" -Nacimiento del Sol Vencedor-.

En fin, que en estas fechas todo mundo, Cristiano, Musulman, Judío, Escandinavo, Romano, etc., celebra algo muy especial. Por eso creo que es no solo correcto, sino incluso apropiado expresar nuestros mejores deseos A TODO EL MUNDO, sea cual fuere su manera de pensar y sea lo que fuere que celebren, con un sincero "FELICES FIESTAS".

Hablando de la fecha que se avecina, para quienes seguimos el calendario Juliano, estamos a punto de celebrar el final de otro ciclo solar, lo que no celebran ni los Chinos ni los Musulmanes ni los Judíos, por ejemplo, pues ellos siguen calendarios diferentes.

Así que una vez más, ¡FELICES FIESTAS! y para quienes como yo, celebramos también la entrada de un nuevo año,

¡FELIZ AÑO NUEVO!

WHAT WE CELEBRATE

Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual holiday that marks the traditional birthdate of Jesus of Nazareth. Christmas combines the celebration of Jesus' birth with various other traditions and customs, many of which were influenced by ancient winter festivals such as Yule and Saturnalia.

ETHIMOLOGY

In Anglo-Saxon times, Christmas was referred to as geol, from which the current English word 'Yule' is derived. The word "Christmas" is a contraction meaning "Christ's mass." It is derived from the Middle English Christemasse and Old English Cristes mæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038.

Christmas is sometimes shortened to Xmas, an abbreviation that has a long history. In early Greek versions of the New Testament, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of Christ Since the mid-sixteenth century Χ, or the similar Roman letter X, was used as an abbreviation for Christ.

24th DEC – SAINT EVE (Szent Este)

We celebrate the Christmas in different way even in Europe, too...country by country. How is that in Hungary?
On 24th Dec is Saint Eve. After 16.00 the life stop here. If somebody works, run home to spend the feast with the loved. Here the Xmas is family feast. That is why the Saint Eve is very painful for the lonely people....who has no family...or somebody.

In the afternoon the father with bigger children decorate the Xmas tree (the little one sleeps and they imagine the little Jesus bring the tree and the gifts..it is a magic for them.)

We decorate the tree with electronics light, (the real candles as before is very dangerous) Xmas fondant, meringue, shining ornaments, sparkler, but nicer with hand-made decoration (from wood), honey-cakes, apple , orange etc...

Meantime the women make the supper. Traditionally that is fish-soup (from carp) and fish fried in breadcrumbs, stuffed cabbage or nowadays turkley with dried plum. And many cakes, the most important cake is the “beigli”.

After supper we give gifts to each others. That is depend on vallet and the taste, maybe from plazma Tv till the hand-made gifts...the most important to make happy the others...but that is not simple.

At midnight who can be up (and feel important that) go to the church for mass.. it is very nice and touching..and if it snowing meantime..it is really wonderful.....

25-26th DECEMBER - CHRISTMAS (Karacsony)

These day we go to visit parents, childrens, sisters, brothers, relatives far and close..we have lunch and give gifts again to each others...and eat all day...
Generally we go to church both 2 days...

The Christams tree is up till 6th jan (Epiphany)
