Actually Anna would have been eligible to compete this year, so it wasn't "given" to her for that reason. Anna made an excellent representative for this organization and truly exemplified what it means to be Miss sc; she will have very big shoes to fill and I hope Kelly is up for the job.

I must say, although I was as shocked as anybody in that auditorium when Kelly's name was announced, I think she is mature enough to handle the job and responsibilities of being Miss sc--many of the other contenders simply wanted the crown and opportunity to go to Miss America. I think Kelly will know how to handle the job and do it admirably. Also, she knows this organization and can truly appreciate being its representative (I was worried one of the newbies might snatch the crown and not really understand what it means to be a titleholder for this state).

My how funny it is, those people who just "knew" it would be Maggie's year, and yet she, nor Danielle, were in the top 5. I was beginning to think that this organization was just a big family affair, and if you weren't in the "family" then you could never win. I am so glad that my opinion was wrong after last night's winner was announced. I appreciate an earlier post that states how "when the expected wins, it's just politics, and when the dark horse wins it's... just politics"--I couldn't agree more. People just want an excuse, a scapegoat, to make them feel better when they or their contestant didn't win. It is what it is, it was in God's plan for Kelly to win, and for those who didn't win, perhaps their year will come. Personally, I think Maggie should come back in a few years to compete when she matures a bit... she will be an excellent ambassador for the organization then, and could go all the way at Miss America if she wins in the right year. Best of luck to her in the future!

I will say, I competed this year with all these girls, and I was getting nervous about the final results when certain girls were winning prelims. Being backstage and spending the week with them, we were able to see everyone's true colors, and my how unpretty many of them could be. The judges may not have been able to see these things, but somehow someone worthy may have shown through (although I believe Kelly was one of the contestants seen applying body paint to define her muscles for swimsuit, a little disappointed about that, but she really didn't need to do that anyway, her body would have looked great without).

Bottom line is this: Kelly won. We can either support it or not, but she will be the titleholder until next July. she will never be the next Anna Perry or Erika Powell, but maybe she is what this organization needs right now. Let's just see her year unfold, see how she does, and if it doesn't work out with her, we will have a new titleholder next year. God Bless you Kelly, I wish you the best; it's great to see dedication and persistence pay of for someone.

All you jealous clappers need to just calm down. How would you feel if this was you, the winner they are all talking about? And believe me- if you had won they would be picking apart everything you said or did this past week. Grow up and try again next year.
