  • She is gorgeous, unfortunately Femina is not conducting auditions overseas this year. Their rep Sachin Tahiliani said so. I don't know why, maybe they don't have funds. But there are loads of NRI girls overseas (with Indian passports) who want to participate in Miss India (especially since it is difficult to get into the pageant circuit in the countries they reside in). The NRIs who have participated in Femina before either have strong connections in India or rich supportive parents.   After reading a few articles about this Nivea Visage Wild Card entry contest, I realised that none of the winners so far have direct entry into FMI (except Faith Pandey - not because she is a Nivea Princess, but because she won FMIS 2009). There will be only one Nivea Princess Wild Card entry into the top 25-29 of FMI 2009. What I am still confused about is whether:
  
  (1) the winner will come from the Delhi/Mumbai Wild Card rounds (as TOI is quoting)
  "One wild card winner from the Mumbai and Delhi contests will directly enter the Top 25 at the national pageant."
  
  or whether:
  
  (2) they'll come from all the Wild Card rounds including Bangalore and Kolkata (as IANS is quoting).
  "The Delhi winners will have to compete with the “princesses” from Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore to win the national round."
  
  
  
  I don't see much point in having a mini-contest among Nivea winners to get direct entry into FMI 2009. It's exactly the same as having regional pageants like FMIS and FMIE but this time on a smaller scale. I hope that all the four girls from the Delhi/Mumbais round end up in the finals regardless of who wins the Nivea Wild Card Entry. I hope their participation in this contest does not exclude them from registering for the real Delhi/Mumbai regionals for FMI 2009.

  The crown was won by the lovely 23-year-old Deepthi Mary Varughese from Kerala, who also got a cash price of Rs 1,50,000. The first runner-up was Surbhi Mishra, 21, from Dehradun, and the second runner-up was Rucha Gawas, 21, from Pune, and they got Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.   The 'Pantaloons Femina Miss India East 2009' expert panel today showcased Eastern India's gorgeous beauties who made it to the elimination round.
  
  ''I am much delighted by the overwhelming response received from the first-ever Femina Miss India East pageant,'' National Director of Femina Miss India 2009, Samir Soni said while speaking on the occasion. ''Our property has experienced a massive growth over the year and we aim at building the pillar of beauty in India. Last year, we came up with the 'Femina Miss India South pageant'. Based on it's success, we mulled over creating Femina India East pageant,'' he added.
  
  The selected contestants will further be shortlisted to compete with each other on the finale stage at the 'Pantaloons Femina Miss India East 2009' grand finale on February 17.
  
  They will undergo a training programme
  for eight days beginning February 9. A panel of experts including choreographer and contestant director Mark Robinson, Nivea skincare expert Rekha Seth, fitness expert Vikas Mandal, diction expert Sabira Merchant and diet and nutrition expert Bijoy Mukherjee will guide them on various aspects, he added.
  
  These 30 contestants were shortlisted from the event held at Kolkata, Bhubeneshwar, Patna and Guwahati.

The girl with the belt is Pooja Jain from Kolkata and the girl in red is from Bhubaneswar, possibly Sashmita Mishra.   They should've done it for Amrita Thapar. Her nose is dire. But it really doesn't matter in the end. I had a huge hang up about Harshita's chin (winl, wink, Neil), but her exuberance and charm more than make up for it. She's fabulous to watch, and Parvathy just oozes elegance and confidence.
