Subject: A suggested approach to getting started
In reply to: Agnes 's message, "Re: I think we must educate them!" on 00:44:51 11/16/06 Thu

Need to start by having someone from a flyer friendly state, so they won't find someone knocking at their door, write a low-key, friendly letter and send via the Post Office to the agency given on the site saying they would like to know who is currently responsible for maintaining it with the view of collaborating about updating some of the information in light of newer research.

Do NOT at this time go into exactly what is wrong! But do make it clear that you expect an answer because they, of course, don't want outdated information appearing under their name. Sending via the Post Office has a better chance of getting to the right person in the agency, but do include an e-mail address for their reply. May want to set up a new e-mail account just for this if you don't want to give out your personal one.

Address for the agency should be fairly easy to find by checking the official site for the state/Feds. Need to mention being a spokesperson for a number of interested people using the Internet. If no response in 3 weeks, follow up with an e-mail to the agency's general feedback address asking if they got your letter.

The goal is to establish a working relationship with someone who may be generations removed from the original "experts". This person may be very happy to have help in correcting miss-information and updating the site, so don't get them in trouble before giving them a chance to work with us.

Once a name is found, need to address what is wrong with the current info and how it should be corrected. At this time we can all help.

If response is less than satisfactory in getting a name or the person's response, we can increase pressure and/or go up various levels until the info is either corrected, removed, or the site brought down.

Right we need one person to get the ball rolling and report back here how things are progressing.

>Those people that came to
>them for help, learned nothing in the way of caring
>properly for their new furball. It made me mad.....
>And it frustrated me, knowing I could do nothing about
>it. They call themselves experts...
