Ack... I heard that a while ago. It's pretty dumb; not even the least bit funny. Unlike Billy the Egomaniac, the author, Stephen Lynch, is not a Pumpkins fan, and is taking a cheap shot at Billy. Mr. Lynch probably doesn't know a single thing about the Pumpkins other than what lies on the outside w/the popular songs. This is always true with those that exaggerate Billy's singing. They hear songs like Bullet w/Butterfly Wings and then completely dismiss the band. A local newspaper music critic once put in a 3-eleven concert review that "the most unsufferable things to come out of the 90's is the music genre of rock-rap, let alone Billy Corgan's singing voice". My God, I was pissed off. Especially since he then proceeded to give 311 a good review! In his review of the recent Zwan concert at Bogarts here in Cincinnati (which was amazing, BTW), this is what he said: "Here are two oxymorons for you to take into consideration - a good Billy Corgan band and...." (the other one is irrelevant). His review of the concert was positive and he mentioned liking the band's hit, Honestly. But what bothered me about this particular article is that he expressed a liking for poppy songs like Honestly, but not for the genius songs of The Smashing Pumpkins. This can only lead one to believe that this critic didn't do enough research to look beyond songs like Bullet w/Butterfly Wings. Someone like that should step down from writing reviews in a newspaper and go work for MTV. Anyway, I got a little side-tracked, but my point is that people who make fun of Billy Corgan's voice are ignorant and have no idea as to what he or she is talking about. This is exactly the case with Stephen Lynch's little joke and that is something I, being a diehard Pumpkins fan, cannot appreciate.
