  • Wanted: Helpful advice for an irish dance family. A transfer is required for our family. We understand our options to be Short or SFH. Can anyone provide constructive thoughts on either as we are moving into new territory and we are unsure if we should go to one school or make the drive the other. I am not looking to stir the message board, we are just hoping for some irish dancing advice. -- ID mom, Tue, November 18, 09:01:03am

  • Re: Oireachtas from the Eastern Region Board -- ., Tue, October 28, 10:52:04am
Just thought we could take this time to remind people of a few things that will help us ALL have a great event for the O.

    1) Elevator buttons – Do NOT push every single one, use the one for your floor only.
    2) No Running in the halls after 10 PM we have families with young children who may be competing early and they need their rest. We will do the same for you.
    3) No loud music after 10 PM see #2.
    4) No practice in halls or rooms after 10 PM see #2
    5) Let’s not make excessive work for the staff pick up the basics after yourself. We would like to return here in the future and still get great room rates.
    6) Use trash contains in your room and in the ballrooms. See # 5
    7) Please do not build towers out of the drinking cups – they are for drinking not toys.
    8) Enter the Ballrooms before your competition and please only take up the seats you need to sit in. Others would also like to sit.
    9) If you are not scheduled until later in the day please do not save seat. See #8
    10) If you see handicapped or elderly people with canes, make way and if you are able give up a seat. See # 8
    11) Please do not stand in front of people trying to watch competitions
    12) Please no loud conversations during any competitions
    13) Please no cell phone calls with long and loud conversations in the ballrooms, please leave the room during competitions see #12
    14) Please show the boys/men the same respect you would give the girls/ladies.
    15) When in doubt use common courtesy.
    16) Do not speak badly about anyone, any parent or any dancer - you do not know who you are near. See #15.
    17) Do not scream during the recalls so that everyone can hear and we can get through it – this will save time. See #15
    18) Please leave the doorways and aisles clear so the dancers can pass to get to competitions. See #15
    19) Thank the staff of the hotel. See #15
    20) Respect others belongings
    21) Respect yourself and others
    22) Thank your parents for all the time and money they have spent to help you reach your goal.
    23) Leave your dogs at home or please use a kennel.
    24) Do not lean on the light switches.
    25) Best of all HAVE FUN!!!!

10pm on Bravo, Mon Nov 17th: a 2004 documentary about the Western Canadian O. Haven't seen it, but it apparently follows a few dancers as they prepare for the competition. Could be fun to watch.
