  • Very Important - Please Read!! -- ID Dad (Perplexed), Tue, March 07, 11:44:53am
I just wanted to reach out and say a HUGE THANK YOU to McGinley Academy and their volunteers (Dancers and Parents) for a fantastic Feis this past weekend with the Grace O’Malley Feis. Amazing work by all involved to put on such a big event – over 2 days also!!

A BIG Thank You is also due for the presentation for all the individual reel competitions. I know this was a lengthy process in the middle of the day and it may have caused some competitions to run behind. However, based on the looks on each competitor’s face to hear their name called, to be able to step up onto the BIG podium and receive their award or accolade, made the day so special for so many competitors (Big to Small) that may never have a chance to hear their names in the live results in PC or Champ.

I also wanted to mention how upset I was to hear grumblings and complaining about running late – hiccups and delays with results – the usual “I’ll NEVER do this Feis again” – the standard thankless whining & complaining about everything that we’ve all heard too much of over the years. If this is really the case, do us all a favour and stop Feising!!

These events are put together for the kids by the various schools and the parents/dancers are ALL VOLUNTEERS working their butts off to make these events successful. Unless you have been involved in one of these, you have no idea the massive amount of work involved with making these events work. I was there both days and the same volunteers were running the same areas for TWO FULL DAYS and I ‘m sure that most of them didn’t even have a chance to see their own children competing. Remember, these VOLUNTEERS are there before you get there and long after you leave!!

What message are we giving our kids by acting in this way – a Feis is FOR THE KIDS!! I have 2 children actively involved in this sport so I was there both days for most of the day. Instead of complaining all the time, pick up a broom, offer to help, pick up some garbage - speak with a volunteer – see if they need any help (even a simple thank you makes all the difference sometimes)

The ECR and the Irish Dance community is a very small and close knit group. In the end, we are all in this together, for our Children’s success, confidence, accomplishments and the great social aspect of it all. You can’t put a price, time or money, on watching your kids achieve and succeed. It’s not school against school or dancer against dancer – its dancers, themselves, trying to better their last competition or apply what they’ve worked so hard on. If you see a volunteer or another parent struggling with something, even as simple as a mad dash shoe change – take a moment to see if you can help – your actions will make a difference!! Let’s get rid of the negativity and bring back the positivity!!

    Thanks so much !!
    ID Dad.

Advanced Beginner, Novice, and Prizewinner competitions are now a combination of two age groups. Competitions will be split into single age groups if they reach 15 entries or more. If you'd like to read the full rule you may do so on our syllabus. -- hope grades moms find this helpful, Thu, December 29, 10:05:17am

  • We are from the Southern Region and attended Feile Nollaig this past weekend. It was my children's first trip to Canada. We had such a wonderful time. Everyone was so helpful and kind. My daughter had never danced in a treble reel competition, and another dancer at the entry table graciously taught her the end step. My daughter says it was her favorite feis ever. We can't wait until next year. Thanks for the hospitality. -- JM, Thu, December 15, 03:02:34pm

  • Bus Trip to North Coast Feis -- Ohio Bound!, Mon, December 12, 04:25:57pm
    OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!!!!

GC BUS TRIP TO NORTH COAST FEIS - February 3/4

GC sold out one bus for North Coast Feis and booked a second one. We have some seats on it and want to open it to other schools so we can get a good ECR contingent heading there. We are so limited in the number of Feises for our dancers through the winter, and this one is a really good, well run event.

We have it set up on a website called TILT. People book seats and ONLY once the bus is full, are they charged.

Here is all the info on it. GTA dance families that are thinking about the feis but dont want to risk the weather (weve had bad weather 5 out of 7 trips and not a problem when you are on the bus), they are more than welcome to come on the bus with us.

    Bus Website.....

    http://tilt.tc/8UR7?s=wb&u=rsimms92

Reservations for the Friday Night should be made at the Sheraton Cleveland Airport under the North Coast Feis group.

    http://www.sheratonclevelandairport.com/

Entries for the Feis are open and Grade Exams are closed.

    http://www.northcoastfeis.com/

    Schedule -

Friday February 3 - 7:00 am Leave from GC studio,
1040 South Service Road East (just east of Trafalgar facing the QEW) at 7:00 am on Friday February 3rd. Cars can be parked overnight at the back of the parking lot.

We stop for border check, then at Angola Road Side Stop for refreshements, and finally at South Park Mall for some shopping.

We do two trips from the mall to the hotel at scheduled times.

Saturday February 4 - The hotel provides shuttles all day to and from the feis, and we have usually two runs to by the buses. We head back to Ontario following the Parade of Champs, usually around 7:30 pm, with a stop at another mall for food and beverages for the ride home.

  • Cookie Basket Raffle for a Former ECR Dancer Who is Battling Cancer -- Caitlyn, Fri, November 18, 01:49:55pm
    Hi All,

I know how the Irish Dancing community pulls together in great times and in hard times. A young lady who used to dance for the Graham School was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and has been undergoing radiation. She has been through a lot since the diagnosis. She and her newly wed husband have put their lives on hold to deal with her battle with cancer. With all that has been going on their financial earnings have been put on the back burner. I am doing a raffle for a basket of Christmas themed sugar cookies($100+ value) to help raise money to assist them during this difficult time.

Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. The draw will take place December 19th, 2016, just in time for the Christmas season. All the money raised will go to Lauren and her husband Eddy. Whoever is interested in participating please let me know!
Online donations for tickets are available as well.

For a little insight as to what Lauren has been going through this is the blog she has kept along the way:

So many new champions this year different from last year, if you compare this years parade of champs to last year they are drastically different! I think its great that we come from a region where different people have the chance to make it to the top. We might be a small region, but we certainly are a strong one! Well done to everyone.

I don't understand why a certain school has to enter every single dancer in a team. It was a bit ridiculous at awards that they were continually being called. Why not let some of the other schools have an opportunity to let their students get a medal from this event. Why couldn't there be a rule that says each school my only enter one team in the 8 hand competition. It might be nice to see another school come out on top for a change.

This is the worst dress company there is! They don't design well, they ship dresses out that aren't the approved design. Their workmanship is shotty at best. I was having a dress made for my daughter this summer and the dress took forever and the design didn't even match the approved CAD design. We tried designing another and decided to part ways. They tried to send me my refund through paypal which would cost me more money! They not only kept my deposit, should have returned it on good faith, they now have told my credit card company that they sent me a dress. Now I have to re-open another dispute and go out of my way to prove I never received a dress. My friend bought a dress for her daughter and it showed up not being the approved CAD. She sent it back and it took weeks to get the dress back. They have so many excuses to why dresses take so long, why dresses don't look exactly like the CAD. I just now received my daughter's dress from Gavin, and just like her sister's dress, LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE CAD. Shame on you Tracy & Orna! Save your daughter the heartache and yourself frustration and go with Gavin!

Guess the teachers get to make up their own rules for their favorite dancers. How long should I let this happen before I say something

Does anyone have any thoughts on this feis? How are road conditions usually? We currently live in Maryland, but previously lived in northern Utah so I am used to driving in snow but am hoping the Canadian roads are generally not too icy during the day. I would appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks. -- JM, Thu, October 27, 11:40:44am
