  • What is your school doing to keep classes alive? -- Frustrated in the ECR, Thu, April 16, 01:29:17pm
I see on facebook and instagram that many schools have taken their lessons to an online format. I wonder how many of your dancers are getting this opportunity. My dancers are at a fairly large & successful school but there has been nothing for them since Mid March. The teachers don't seem interested in getting online but I am assuming they are working with their own children or a select group. I am curious to know what other schools are doing to help dancers cope with the loss of classes and so much more.

If you are getting classes in any format, I am happy for you, but sad that my children are missing dance and feeling like they have lost a coveted activity. Our teachers seem so disinterested.

  • Riverdance Summer School 2020 -- Kerri (excited), Mon, January 27, 09:28:13am
Irwin Academy is pleased to commit our support to Riverdance Academy’s Summer School expansion into the Mid-America region.

This summer, the Riverdance Summer School will be in Dublin, Ireland; Boston, Mass; and, Columbus, Ohio. It’s a tremendous opportunity for Irish dancers. We invite you to attend and to share the news.

We're sharing with the Eastern Canada region as Columbus may be a shorter travel distance than Boston for many of you.

Riverdance Summer School Columbus will be held at Otterbein University. There are three options:

    1. The full-week experience for accomplished dancers 12 and up – commuter.
    2. The full-week experience for accomplished dancers 12 and up – residential.
    3. The half-week experience called Riverdance Juniors for dancers aged 6 - 11 – commuter.

The full-week program will run six days Sunday, July 26 through Friday, July 31 with a culminating showcase performance Friday evening at the Dublin Irish Festival.

Summer School Columbus registration is open: https://academy.riverdance.com/columbus

Interested dancers must apply via the Riverdance link and submit a short video of the dancer in hard shoe. Please list Irwin Academy on the form when asked how you heard. Once accepted, another registration link will be sent with detailed information and for payment processing.

    • The cost is $650 for early bird registrants or $699 after March 1. The residential cost is $299.
    • The half-week cost for Riverdance Juniors is $249 early bird or $299 after March 1.

  • Going to keep this positive! -- Me, Fri, June 28, 11:23:35pm
Best of luck to all of our ecr dancers at nationals. You have all worked so hard up to this great event.

Dance your hearts out and your feet will follow. Dance the best that you can and remember the only thing that you can control is your performance. It is a judged sport after all.

Thank you to all the dance parents. I know that the dancers would not be where they are without all of your support.

Thank you to all the teachers. Your guidance means the world to the dancers.

Win or lose you make us proud. Enjoy every moment of the experience. There is a lot more to irish dance than trophies. There are lasting friendships and experiences that many of us would not otherwise have.

Best of luck to everyone. Keep it positive!

I am looking for used soft shoes for sale in the Toronto area, especially looking for size 1, but also open to anything from size 10-5. They do not need to be in great condition, (no holes however), as they are to help some recreational beginners get started. If you have any old shoes you are trying to get rid of, please contact me by email: mpion93@hotmail.com

I am willing to travel or pay for shipping. Thank you!

  • Requirements to move levels? Inside -- Ecr, Mon, May 27, 03:50:31pm
I’ve seen a lot of different rules applied for moving levels. Especially Novice to Prizewinner and Prizewinner to Prelim. I’ve seen some move before they have the wins required. And some that stay and accumulate much more than the required wins, as per the syllabus. So at the end of the day, is it really just TC discretion?? Confused as to why the rules are there if few follow them?
