    The Mullane Healy Godley Academy of Irish Dance will be hosting the annual Halloween Feis, 2012 on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the McCook Athletic and Exposition Center, located in McCook, IL.

    The feis will open for entries on August 27, 2012, and entries will be accepted through October 15, 2012 via http://www.feisworx.com. There is a cap of 800 entries for all First Feis through Open Prizewinner dancers. For Preliminary and Open Championship competitions there is a cap of 300 dancers. In preparation of the Oireachtas 2012 all Preliminary and Open Championship dancers will dance all three rounds and be adjudicated by a total of nine adjudicators, the same adjudicating format employed by the Oireachtas.

    In memory of the late Ann Richens, who is sadly missed by so many in our region, we will be hosting the second annual Ann Richen's Memorial Treble Reel Competition at the Halloween Feis. The competition will combine all feis treble reel competitions into ONE, which will be held during the lunch break, and adjudicated by nine adjudicators. All dancers must wear a Halloween costume in order to partake, and the first place winner will be awarded $500. Please note all treble reel proceeds will be donated in Ann Richen’s name to the American Cancer Society.

    The host hotel is the Holiday Inn, Countryside. For the feis rate of $119.00 please call 708-354-4200 and quote Irish Dance. Reservations open 9/1/2012.

    Once again we have employed a very distinguished and varied panel of adjudicators and musicians:

  • Newmarket Feis Registrar's email address corrected -- skaughtEE, Fri, September 14, 11:04:02am
    It has come to the attention of the Newmarket Feis that some people have been trying to email our Registrar, unsuccessfully, through our website's contact page.

    We have looked into the issue and have discovered that an error had been made in the email address entered into the system. This has now been fixed.

    We do apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused and would just like to say that our Registrar, Carrie, works diligently to try and answer all of your questions as quickly as she can. If you have not received a response from her, then please try again.

    FYI

    The Petri Feis is almost at its cap. Any payments postmarked on or after September 16, will be charged a $15.00 late fee. Late fees are charged by postmark date, not by the day you registered on Feisweb. Entries will be accepted, if we don't reach our cap of 700, until September 25th.

    We are excited to be holding our feis at Carle Place High School, 169 Cherry Lane, Carle Place, NY. The venue is located off of theNorthern State Parkway exit 32/Post Avenue South—First Right onto Asbury Ave.—Past 1 traffic light—Left onto Cherry Lane—School is on the right.


    The Petri Feis will be capped at 700 this year due to a smaller venue, so get your entries in before you are closed out.

    Also, sashes will be awarded to the top 5 dancers in preliminary and open championship competitions.

    We offer 3 rounds of competition for open champs and perpetual cups in both preliminary and open championship

    Besides our regular competitions, we will also be offering dancers competitions in the treble reel, traditional set piece and contemporary set piece.

    I am contacting all of you in hopes that you will help out my daughters soccer. It will only take a moment of your time. If you facebook, could you please go to the Major League Sportsplex page. (link below) Once you are on their page, you have to like it and then post in their comment section. 'I support Ajax FC Girls U12 White 2001'. By doing this it gives our team an opportunity to win a whole indoor season for free. It must be done by September 21,2012 at 11:59 pm. Presently the team in 1st only has 190 votes.   • Feis Rules -- observer, Sat, September 08, 07:04:19pm
    I was shocked today to see so many people (and so many from the host school including 3 of their teachers) not following the no food/drink in gym or auditorium rule.

    We are losing so many feis' because of difficulty securing venues and the increasing rental fees that we need to be more respectful of the rules.

    Is it annoying not being able to finish my morning coffee before entering the stages? Does it stink having to wait till 130 to have lunch because I'm stuck in the gym with dancers? ABSOLUTELY! But I respect that the venue doesn't want food/drinks in their space and I want to continue feising so I follow the rules.

    On the bright side, didn;t appear to be too much litter so thats good to see for once at the end of a feis day!!!

    Reminder:
    The Petri Feis entries need to be in and post dated by September 15, 2012 to avoid the late fee of $15.00.

    If you haven't mailed in your entries get them in by Friday to avoid the late fee. Entries will be accepted after the 15th and until the 25th of September with the $15.00 late fee, if cap of 700 has not been reached.

  • We are very excited to host the 14th Annual June Butler Memorial Feis this Saturday, September 8th at Cawthra Park Secondary School, Mississauga, Ontario. -- JBMF Committee, Thu, September 06, 07:18:33am
    Here are a few last minute details and reminders from the Feis Committee to help you plan your day:

    * Today (Thursday September 6th) is the LAST DAY FOR ENTRIES. Day entries will be accepted for Tir na nOg and Treble Reel competitions only.

    * A Revised stage schedule has been posted to our website. It was updated to include competition C9 and changes to entry numbers for a few competitions.
    * Please remember to check your stages for any changes throughout the day.
    * Feis starts promptly at 8:30 am. Stages 3, 4 & 5 will break for lunch as shown on the schedule, with competitions not resuming before 1:00 p.m. Stages 1 & 2 will break for lunch between competitions as shown, whatever time that happens to be.
    * Parking is available at the front of the school, entrance off Cawthra Road. Additional parking options are at the back of the school (head east on Atwater Avenue at south end of school, entrance to parking is off Atwater), and at the neighbouring school (St Paul Secondary School - entrance off Atwater). There is NO parking at the Recreation and Seniors Centre to the North of the School.
    * Entry to the feis is ONLY through the cafeteria doors (same entrance as last year, for those of you returning).
    * Please respect our privilege to use the school facilities. We ask you PLEASE:
    - No food or beverages other than water in the auditorium and gyms
    - Place ALL your garbage in the bins provided
    - No camping on the gym floors (chairs and bleachers area available in the gyms)
    - Absolutely NO SMOKING on school property
    * Our Tea Room will be open from the morning onwards, offering plenty of snacks and baked goods, fruit, beverages, pizza and subs.
    * Teddy Bears from the CIBC Pink Collection™ will be sold at the Feis to remember and support so many of our Irish Dance Community who have been affected by Breast Cancer. Teddies are only $10 each and CIBC passes on 100% of net proceeds to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
    * Don’t forget to visit our guest vendors for all your feis supply needs.
    * We are pleased to offer sashes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Prelim and Champ, and beautiful awards including crystal for champ.
    * We are also offering two new perpetual cups for this year’s feis:
    - The winner of Prelim U16 will receive the Mairead Gavin memorial trophy in honour of a dear member of the BFOC family.
    - The winner of the Junior Dance-Off will receive the Penner Family Perpetual Junior Championship trophy honouring the Penner family who have contributed so much to the Irish Dance community.
    * There is a Swimming Pool located at the school and there is Public Swimming from 2:30 to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
    * We will have lots of volunteers at the feis, so if you have any questions please ask one of us and we will do our best to find the answer.
    * Finally, we would like to wish all competitors and families safe travels, best of luck, and enjoy your day!

  • ECR Feis Venues -- Please follow the rules!!, Wed, September 05, 09:29:57am
    Please treat all feis venues as if your name was on the rental contract. I saw people breaking the rules last week at Oakville Feis and eating on the field. Now this week there is no food or drink (except water) allowed in the auditorium at Cawthra Park/June Butler Feis. We do not want to lose these venues for these feises. It is very difficult to find affordable venues for our feises. Please respect the rules. Please clean up after yourselves.

    What does your school require to let your dancer go into the Oireachtas for Solos? My daughter has worked so hard this year and she isn't in Preliminary yet but I think she should really get to go to the Oireachtas. Its not fare that other dancers get to go just because they are preliminary and mine has to sit out. I thought anyone could go.

    JUST A FEW REMINDERS:

    -All chairs/stools must either be placed on top of a mat OR tennis balls must be placed on each leg to protect the artificial turf

    -The soccer club does not allow ANY food (including candy and/or gum) and/or drink, EXCEPT FOR WATER, to be consumed on the artificial turf.

    -Parking is available at the soccer club. Overflow parking is available at the school on Pine Glen Road next door. NO PARKING AT FRESHCO/MALL across the street

    -Day-of registration for trophy specials and charity treble reels available until 10:00

    -There will not be a program this year so please print your own competitor lists and stage schedule. Copies of the stage schedule will be available at the entry desk.

    -Visit our tea room/bake sale, available all day, and join us for BBQ lunch.

    Hi all.

    I'm new to Twitter (today is day one) but it seems easy enough.

    We are going to try something new at the feis this weekend which is to utilize Twitter to keep people AT the feis informed of a few things such as when we will announce PC/OC results and when stages will re-start after the lunch break.

    This is a test run for (hopefully) the Oireachtas to announce when to expect check-ins, recalls, results etc. The Oireachtas committee knows how people are afraid to leave the dance area for any reason in case they miss recalls/results etc. but secretly, this is all to stop the fifty million people who ask me in the hallway when recalls will be called. (when they're ready, btw)

    So, please be patient this Saturday with this project. It's just a test. We make no promises that it will be glitch-free (the tweeting that is - the feis will be great!). Like every feis volunteer at every feis, we'll try our best.

    The Petri Feis is open for entries at www.feisweb.com. Our feis will be held this year on Sunday, September 30th.
    We are excited to be holding our feis at Carle Place High School.

    The Petri Feis will be capped at 700 this year due to a smaller venue, so get your entries in before you are closed out.

    Also, sashes will be awarded to the top 5 dancers in preliminary and open championship competitions.


    We offer 3 rounds of competition for open champs and perpetual cups in both preliminary and open championship

    Besides our regular competitions, we will also be offering dancers competitions in the treble reel, traditional set piece and contemporary set piece.

    Looking forward to seeing everyone in September.

    The Mullane Healy Godley Academy of Irish Dance will be hosting the annual Halloween Feis, 2012 on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the McCook Athletic and Exposition Center, located in McCook, IL.

    The feis will open for entries on August 27, 2012, and entries will be accepted through October 15, 2012 via http://www.feisworx.com. There is a cap of 800 entries for all First Feis through Open Prizewinner dancers. For Preliminary and Open Championship competitions there is a cap of 300 dancers. In preparation of the Oireachtas 2012 all Preliminary and Open Championship dancers will dance all three rounds and be adjudicated by a total of nine adjudicators, the same adjudicating format employed by the Oireachtas.

    In memory of the late Ann Richens, who is sadly missed by so many in our region, we will be hosting the second annual Ann Richen's Memorial Treble Reel Competition at the Halloween Feis. The competition will combine all feis treble reel competitions into ONE, which will be held during the lunch break, and adjudicated by nine adjudicators. All dancers must wear a Halloween costume in order to partake, and the first place winner will be awarded $500. Please note all treble reel proceeds will be donated in Ann Richen’s name to the American Cancer Society.

    The host hotel is the Holiday Inn, Countryside. For the feis rate of $119.00 please call 708-354-4200 and quote Irish Dance. Reservations open 9/1/2012.

    When you have a daughter, you come to realize that there is a very special bond between two people that can never be broken.
    You find yourself doing things you thought never possible to make sure your daughter is HAPPY.
    Being the father of an Irish Dancer is most rewarding, at least the parts you choose to remember.
    You travel with her and take her to places you would have never thought you would ever be at.
    You spend most of your time in halls, gyms, concert halls and airports.
    You will say nothing when she dances.
    You will always agree with her when she says things that would normally hurt your feelings
    You will support her if she wins or loses.
    You will buy her tape, buy her new shoes and buy her wigs even though you have lost all of your hair.
    You will not say a word when she is mad.
    You will love her with all your heart and remember the good times and forget the so not so good times.
    You will spend every cent you have and when she asks you for that last dollar you will gladly give it-even though you wished for that Guinness at the bar.
    The best example of this father that I have ever known was a man name Noel.
    He did all of the above and even more.
    He loved his daughter so so much.
    He loved Irish dance and spent every day involved with the sport
    He would do anything for the dance school and never asked for anything in return.
    He was a father among fathers and sadly passed away earlier this week.
    For all that knew him, you will know that this was a True Irishman who would tell jokes that would make you feel good when you were at a low was Noel.
    He would bring a Guinness to you when your daughter had taken your last dollar.
    So in his honor and for all the Dads who have or are still out there being a FATHER.........................of an Irish dancer or just a father


    I RAISE A GLASS OF GUINNESS and salute you Noel


    A great father and a great Friend

    I will truly miss you and my tears are not of sadness but of great memories that will be with me forever.

  • Oireachtas Overflow Hotel added -- ECRO Committee, Tue, August 21, 10:11:46am
    The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth has sold their double rooms. More were added to the contract and those sold as well. King rooms are still available.

    Seven hotels were contracted for a preferred rate to serve as an overflow hotel.

    Some were too expensive, some were too far away, some could not offer enough rooms and some did not respond.

    Le Sheraton has been contracted to offer rooms at the same rate of $150 plus taxes. They have limited doubles available.

  • FUN FEIS ON THE FIRST DAY OF FALL!! (Say that five times, fast!) THE MINNESOTA FEIS 2012 -- Mary Thomas, Co-Chair, Sat, August 18, 11:17:45pm
    On Saturday, SEPTEMBER 22, we invite you to join us at the St. Paul RiverCentre, on the banks of the Mississippi River in beautiful downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, for THE MINNESOTA FEIS 2012. Check out our web site at www.theminnesotafeis.org .

    Our Event Fee is $16, solo dance fee is $9, and RESULTS ARE INCLUDED in the event fee. Registration is through www.feisworx.com

    Competition will start at 9:00 AM again this year (opening ceremonies at 8:40 AM), in the hope that this will allow people more time to get breakfast. The Championship stage will proceed from YOUNGEST to OLDEST dancers, hard shoe first.

    We pledge to try to combine as many competitions as possible, within the guidelines of the rules and regulations, so that placings in competitions will COUNT towards advancement in the dance levels. I’ll say it again this year: A feis may have a great location, be a good experience, have wonderful volunteers, and even have good food, but a majority of competitors go to a feis in order to have a chance to advance through the levels. We realize this (sympathize with this?), and will do our best.

    Judges and musicians on the grade-level stages will be rotated at regular intervals, with a rotation of champ stage and grade stage judges at the lunch break.

    We are offering Set Dance competitions that are open to BOTH Preliminary Champ dancers and Prizewinner dancers who are preparing dances for the Oireachtas. For those in U9, it will be traditional set; U10 and above will be non-traditional set.

    The treble reel is one of the most fun things to do at a feis, and we’re again scheduling these to make participation easier: Champ treble reels will be held throughout the day, and Novice/Prizewinner treble reels will be right at the end of the lunch break.

    Again this year, admission is FREE to the public, so bring your family and friends. Also, if you are bringing someone who is a non-dancer, but SINGS OR PLAYS AN INSTRUMENT (or does these in addition to dance!) there is competition for them as well! Just use the Feisworx system to register. Arts and Soda Bread are in there, too.

    --The Cathedral of St. Paul, National Shrine of the Apostle Paul, on the hill overlooking the RiverCentre. Named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the cathedral offers daily masses, and is open to visitors for sightseeing.
    --Take a cruise on a Mississippi Riverboat with the historic Padelford Riverboats (www.RiverRides.com), or along the scenic St. Croix River at the Minnesota-Wisconsin border with the St. Croix Boat & Packet Co. (www.stillwaterriverboats.com).

    Some of the grade compititions seem to be low numbers. I see there is mail in registration also. Is the competitor list up to date? Is there anything that is different about this feis I should know ahead of time. We all have passports so that will not be a problem. Thanks!

    I have three pairs of Rutherford Superflexi hardshoes. All were bought new and used by one dancer and still in very good shape. I have size 3, 3.5 and 4 UK available. The size 3 and 3.5 UK were my DD's shoes and she is too young for toe stands and the size 4 belong to an older dancer who retired shortly after purchasing so they are hardly broken in. Asking $120.00 cdn/pair plus shipping for the hardshoes. I have two pair of Capizio dance sneakers available as well.. hardly used.. baby blue size 4US and Pink 6 US (They fit more like a size 1.5 and 3.5 US) for $30 each plus shipping. I am able to bring any of the shoes to the following feisanna...

  • Noel Mahoned Rest in Peace. It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Noel Mahoned, father of Kayla recently retired dancer of BFOC (and previously Woodgate). A huge supporter of Irish Dance Noel traveled to competitions througout North America and Overseas with Kayla. He will be remembered for his kind nature, sense of humour and generosity.     Mahomed, Noel - Dad passed suddenly at home, Wednesday evening August 8, 2012 in his 70th year, loving father of Colleen (Duane), Warren (Vickie), Shannon (Paul) and Kayla. Loving son of Elizabeth Mahomed and the late Abe Mahomed of Ireland. Brother of Ali Mahomed of England. Noel will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Justine, Tyler, Emil, Brayden, Emma, Ethan, Jonah, Jacob and Ella. Noel will be sadly missed by many family and friends here, Ireland and England. Noel was a hard worker who loved to fly and electronics was his passion. Following cremation, visitation will be held on Monday, August 13th from 2 p.m. until time of Funeral Service at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com.
