With the past two years at the O I have had major issues......2 years ago I was pregnant, heavily, 1 month to go and I asked several people who were holding seats if I could sit down, very rude people answered No!
Last year while being pregnant again and holding my almost 1 year old again I was refused seats. 4 men all from same school with cell phones on the empty seats holding them for their wives.
This year I ask that even though I am not bring ing my little ones and I'm noy pregnant but this is for all.
Please do not hold groups of seats and be courteous to all pregnent ladies and parents with small children.
The ball rooms were the worst but the elevators I also came acroos very rude people.
In fact I ask that you be courteous to everyone and respectful of others.

- ya...the first 2 rows last year had coats across the seats for the entire day....very few times did I see them actually being used, but those people decided they would save them for themselves for the next round...I don't have a problem moving your coat, bag or whatever for me to have a seat while my dd is dancing. The trouble is, where do we put our stuff (coats, bags etc) if we can't put them over the backs of chairs??? Please just don't be vultures for seats! Last year stood up at the back so I could watch my little sister dance her Treble Jig, and one rotation later my seat was gone. More than happy to lend a seat to someone in need, nor do I agree with stuff sprawled over a whole section, but please be aware that some people may stand up for a minute, does not mean their seat is now for you!   - Common sense and courtesy - if it was 'my' seat you occupied to watch your dancer, I'd gladly leave you to it. If my dancer were coming on, I'd advise you and hopefully you'll get up and find another seat. We all want to watch our kids, so keep it in mind. If you aren't using it, 'lose' it for a while. - Based on the schedule, I would read it that all the hard shoes are done, and then move on to the soft shoes. Since different judges for each round, I think the same judges will stay for all the hardshoe rounds and then move on. A new set of judges for all the soft shoes. Pretty sure this is how it works. Help, suggestions appreciated please - DD had a lot of trouble sleeping at last out-of-town feis and I'm afraid her nerves will get to her so much at the O that she will have a really hard time getting to sleep Thursday night and feel horrible Friday morning. Make sure she gets really good rest this week and try to treat the night before like any other night, keep it calm and get an early but not too early start to bed. If she doesn't sleep that much, she'll have the good rest behind her to help. (NT) -- --, Mon, November 09, 04:55:59pm
- have 11 same age..changed her schedule this week...bed 8:00am, waking her up 6:00am...no if ands or but's...don't know if this is good advise, but normally she's up till 10pm and up in morning at 8am.. Also, try to make the Thurs. you arrive "uneventful"..don't plan on trips to the Falls, waterpark, etc. on day before she dances...leave that til after...try not to socialize too much the day prior..sounds mean, but really, the less excitment prior, the better...in my experience anyways (NT) -- best of luck, Mon, November 09, 05:47:24pm
My dd had 2 terrible (U10-U11) "night before majors" and I really can't say that it can be avoided if your child has the temperment to second guess themselves. It is the age of self-awareness and with that comes all manner of self-consciousness and the accompanying anxiety. Deep breathing exercises and visualization of the dance in its perfect form can focus the mind to the positive and hence relaxation. My 16 year old daughter has the exact same problem. She's been awake until 3 and 4 am sometimes when she's dancing at 8 in the morning. I don't know how she manages. You could try neo-citron. It has a mild sedative effect but less potent than gravol. I would worry gravol would make you lethargic in the morning. Try to adjust schedule a few days ahead. Exercise early in day, early supper, bedtime snack. No cola or tea (NT) -- x, Mon, November 09, 11:12:55pm
My U11 also struggles with sleep before a comp. I try to make sure she gets plentyh of sleep- even gravel assisted- the week of , but I try to stay away from anything the night before. i just keep it a quiet, calm evening with normal bed-time. Just thought of another thing my dd likes when we go to a hotel - she pretends she's at a spa and mommy gives her a massage before bed. We are not allowed to discuss the competition. Its hit and miss. I travel across the boarder about twice a week. (NT) -- Sometimes I wait an hour (like after feis in July), others 5 minutes (like on the way over same day). Both times Rainbow Bridge. Be prepared to wait, rejoice if you don't have to., Tue, November 10, 12:05:17pm

With the O coming up, may I respectfully ask that dancers make sure they are dressed appropriately during rounds? Please do not walk around in bloomers or sports bras. I ask parents and TCs to ask their dancers to cover up. My dd's TC makes them all cover up (sometimes it doesn't work anyway) but if we're all on the same page we can hopefully make it work -- Thank you very much, Wed, November 04, 11:28:50am

13 yr old dd suddenly does not fit dress for O. In middle of growth spurt so do not want to buy one yet as who knows what she'll look like in Feb. Needed for Friday, Nov. 13 for morning (and hopefully rest of day).
Measurements are:
bust 34,
natural waist 28,
hips 36,
sleeve 22,
shoulders across 15,
collarbone to skirt length needed 30,
dancer is champ level, blond, 5' 6 1/2" and 115 lbs

Any ideas?? Borrow or rent for day is all I can come up with...

Dinner/Dance Discussion: my hope is that the O organizing committee considers hosting the POC differently so that everyone can attend it for its own sake and not tie it to a dinner/dance that for many is not an appropriate or enticing event. -- concerned about the bashing, Sun, November 01, 09:26:15pm
How about doing a simpler POC like at NAN's? This is a suggestion from my 11 year old dancer. It quickly follows the awards of the day, doesn't consume 3-4 hours of the dancers' time when all they probably want to do is "parade" around the hotel, is very simple but still highlights the winners. Is the POC for attendees, judges, dancers, teachers, or all? Formally survey them (use survey monkey - it's so easy) and plan accordingly.

Why does everything have to be dumbed down? The parade of champions at NANs is a joke because everyone is so busy packing up their stuff and wandering out that hardly anyone stays to watch. What's wrong with having the kids put together a real show that's fun to do and gives us a break from all the competitive stuff? Just goes to show that all the complainers always spoil everything because then everything gets watered down to try to keep everyone happy. By leaving, they have made the decision not to attend. That is one of the "deciding not to attend for whatever reason" as noted above. Everyone should have access to see our champions. Since the POC is held at the dinner dance and a run thru at movie night would indicate that the dancers and their families are staying the night. They could hold another performance Sunday while the stage is being prep for choreography/drama or before the final awards of the weekend. This way the ones who are only in for teams and trad sets could have the opportunity to celebrate their champs as well. TC sent out message before stating if you were not well, it wasn't worth the risk to attend. Through the weekend, several dancers who because sick left (long drive home) but didn't have any symptoms the day before. You just don't know you are sick til it hits you between the eyes.
