DD has been home from school since Tues., missed 3 practises, but after day 5 she does seem to be feeling better....she's been replaced on Ceili team...still not sure if that means it's a permanent change now, but it sucks big time.       • Not exactly true. It is droplet transmission which means that it lands within 6 feet of whereever you cough (the H1N1 doesn't cause much sneezing). So, you primarily contract it when someone coughs on you (into your eye or mouth, nose) or you touch something with the virus on it and put your hands (or toys etc) in your mouth. It can be contagious from one day before symptoms start up to 7 days afterwards. Someone who comes back to dance class on day 4, while still coughing is still contagious and is most definitely selfish. Awards would have been better elsewhere, but it's one minor issue. • OP was right. Plain and simple, organizers knew there were a lot of dancers, and made no changes to help the champ stage run more quickly. A late feis should run to 6 or 7, but certainly not 9. Not only were the dancers tired after waiting for many hours to dance, the adjudicators had been there all day and were tired too. Yes, dancers go to this feis for the overseas judges, it's great the organizers had all champs judged by those overseas judges even when things ran late, but little things like presenting awards in the hallway by the vendors could have made a big difference over the day.   • I know a dancer who came to the feis but had to leave to make her shift at work. She didnt even get to compete, she was hoping to at least do 2 rounds to get feedback before the o. • The tea room did not close early. They ran out of food but were there right to the end with drinks and brought several cases of unsold water, pop and juice back to their studio the next day. Don't know why you couldn't get any. It was not the judges who gave the dancers drinks, the tea room volunteers brought a cooler of them down to the stage to hand out for free as a courtesy.   • Hey! This sounds like our school exactly!!! Has a few top dancers but really not many. How could you with so little class time as compared to other ECR schools. And we have no outside help. Looking at school websites and many have between 5 and 10 hours of regular classes per week. Wow! We only have 2 1/2 hours per week plus one more hour before majors. We have tried to keep up but can't in our school so its time to join them. Looking forward to the change and hope dds will rise to it as well.     • I can't stand posts like this..."majority" is only "majority" because of their high #'s. You either have the talent or you don't...BIG schools are not "miracle makers. Know many who have left smaller schools for larger ones and are still in the same level or placing the same as they always did. If you are unhappy or you have conflicts then that's one thing..but if you think your dd or ds will do better by going to "big school" think again, unles he/she has tons of talent. Not everyone from a "big" school is a Champ dancer...and if you want one on one or "special attention" then forget it.     • Go with a school that suits your dancer's needs. This may be a larger school, and for others it may be a smaller 'one on one' type school. We are fortunate to dance in a class where there are many many good dancers who are constantly encouraging others to work and move ahead. The teachers have plenty of time to work with individuals and there is ample space and time to get group and private time.         • LOL...i guess it depends on what "big" school you go to...I also attend a "big" school in ERC and no, we do not get one on one, privates, etc..Our school is very disciplined and only the strong survive the rigourous training. Many times other dancers are left teaching others, that don't pick up steps so quickly. In my 5 yrs. with this school, "maybe" in Beg/Adv. Beg does TC ever give extra attention...once your out of grades, it's up to your dd to "keep up" with the Champs...or not.           • Re: At my "big" ecr school we do get privates, small group lessons, weekend soft shoe classes, Friday extra set classes and this is on top of the 5+ hours we get weekly. Not just the top dancers get this time. Its offered to all. Many take advantage of the extra, many don't. Everyone has different goals and thoughts on how to achieve them. • We(my DD and I) started talking very discreetly, by telephone with the new school a few weeks before the O. She suggested we come to a class and watch.     • again..totally depends on your reasons for changing...doens't mean you'll be a champ or place as a champ if you already are one...I go the "largest" school apparently...some parents don't talk to us either...I switched to this school...still have friends from my old school and new friends from new...it's all on "how you left" that will determine if people will talk to you...maybe they just don't like you?       • No, I often approach the parents of the other school and some of them are still really nice to me. Its just a few and they are ignorant. My nose is right smack in the middle of my face at a level position. I don't play that game.
