  • Having the Parade of Champions after the awards would solve the problem. As it stands now, the POC is part of the dinner/dance and as long as it remains that way, it is not right for people to "crash" the event other than the parents/siblings of the champions. My two cents worth. -- Rubber chicken and bouncy beef., Sun, November 01, 09:40:47am

Since the inception of the Cyril McNiff Scholarship, the IDTANA has proudly awarded over $140,000 to dancers through out North America. The Irish Dance Teacher's Association of North America is proud of the accomplishments of all dancers - not only competitively and artistically - but also academically.

To recognize the accomplishments of these dancers who excel in the classroom and in the dance studio, the IDTANA is proud to offer scholarships totaling $20,000 in 2010 for high school senior students, and those students who are already attending college.

Applications for 2010 are now available at www.idtana.org.

Please note that the application process for 2010 has changed and we ask that you carefully review the information in the application packet for more information.

The Scholarships will be announced in early June, 2010 and a presentation of the scholarship winners will be held at the North American Irish Dance Championships.

  • Roseland Feis organizers....this is meant as constructive criticism... -- tired, Sun, October 25, 01:33:18pm
Please reconsider having awards and the special trophy dance NOT on the Champion stage. I think it's really asking too much for dancers to be dancing til 9 pm. Of course it's OUR choice to go or not to go in the future. I would like to continue to patronize this feis so I'm offering this as constructively as possible. This feis ran too late and closed down the tea room etc very early so no coffee, water - nothing available. Thankfully the judges gave the dancers some water. Seriously...please reconsider this.

  • FREE TUTORIAL: Understanding Timing for Irish Dance Music. Want to improve your timing? Create steps with more impact? Know which type of tune is playing (What’s a slip jig? What’s a single jig? Why is Drunken Gauger/Blackthorn stick so strange?). No music knowledge necessary. Email me at mark@markarringtonmusic.com -- Mark Arrington, Mon, October 26, 02:14:27pm
This tutorial starts with the basic descriptions of timing, and then matches timing to the tunes. There are some ideas about where people make mistakes identifying or following tunes, and ideas for better matching the steps to the music. There is a discussion on how to hear and anticipate phrases in dance tunes and a description of the Beat per Minute as it relates to dancers and musicians.
