Subject: I don't think 9 is too young to decide if you really like something or not. My 7 yo practices every day (on her own). I don't think she would do that if she didn't know she loved this. You might want them to "keep with it", but the only way to see what they will really like is to be able to try things and to be given a chance to talk to you about what they do like...
In reply to: . 's message, "I'm finding that as well...dd has brought a few friends (U9) to I.D. classes...feedback is "it's boring" (we all know it's not), but this is coming from 9 yr. olds....does a 9 or 10 yr. old even have a chance starting off as "new" in I.D., or would hip jop, jazz, tap, ballet be more beneficial at this age? struggling for the best choice...dd is too young to make up her own mind, but want her to be in something she will "keep with it"...no I.D. background in our family..dd likes it because she loves the "music"...lol...she's 9, so don't "yell" at me please :)" on Mon, October 19, 07:22:23pm

  • They do have a chance at that age with the right teachers and work ethic. My dd was U12 when she started competing and was in OC and a WQ within 3 yrs. (NT) -- It can be done, Mon, October 19, 08:23:12pm
  • And...by the "right teachers" I just mean a school that doesn't discount the possibilities for slightly older beginners. (NT) -- it can be done, Mon, October 19, 08:25:07pm
