Curious...do you think the numbers at local Feis's have gone down due to the economy, or less interest in the sport? Are your schools still getting lots of new beginners joining? Our school seems to have fewer new students join and the ones that do, don't seem to want to compete once they are ready. Not because of any school politics, etc...just in general numbers seem lower..any other people noticing this ? -- what gives?, Mon, October 19, 01:56:37pm

- Our school has fewer dancers this year. Alot have quit due to school etc...Alot cannot afford this sport .....also some have quit due to politics of this sport. (NT) -- --, Mon, October 19, 03:20:50pm
- Sometimes my DD wants to just quit! Bored of the same placers time after time. It's who knows you and your teachers. Seen it so maany times.Same results all the time. (NT) -- YAWN!, Mon, October 19, 03:23:55pm
- I have noticed it too! Fewer dancers every year. It's okay if you dance for recreational but once you start competing...the expense is outrageous and for most cannot afford it. (NT) -- --, Mon, October 19, 04:34:52pm
- I find kids are getting interested in hip hop, cheer leading and other forms of dance more so now.... (NT) -- a teacher, Mon, October 19, 06:50:12pm
- I'm finding that as well...dd has brought a few friends (U9) to I.D. classes...feedback is "it's boring" (we all know it's not), but this is coming from 9 yr. olds....does a 9 or 10 yr. old even have a chance starting off as "new" in I.D., or would hip jop, jazz, tap, ballet be more beneficial at this age? struggling for the best choice...dd is too young to make up her own mind, but want her to be in something she will "keep with it"...no I.D. background in our family..dd likes it because she loves the "music"...lol...she's 9, so don't "yell" at me please :) (NT) -- ., Mon, October 19, 07:22:23pm
- I don't think 9 is too young to decide if you really like something or not. My 7 yo practices every day (on her own). I don't think she would do that if she didn't know she loved this. You might want them to "keep with it", but the only way to see what they will really like is to be able to try things and to be given a chance to talk to you about what they do like... (NT) -- Mom, Mon, October 19, 07:53:58pm
- They do have a chance at that age with the right teachers and work ethic. My dd was U12 when she started competing and was in OC and a WQ within 3 yrs. (NT) -- It can be done, Mon, October 19, 08:23:12pm
- It's not too late to start other forms of dance........ -- go out and explore, Mon, October 19, 08:46:11pm
Congrats Charmayne Dulley BFOC in GB--best of luck in your Oireactas! -- your Killarney B&B friends in MAR, Wed, October 21, 07:15:20am

Lord of the dance routine for dance team at school -- mom, Mon, October 19, 10:35:43am
my daughter (no longer doing irish) is going to do a "lord of the dance" routine for "dancing with the stars" at school. Her good friend (male) has offered to do this with her but of course he has NO irish dance background at all. We were thinking of using with "cry of the celts" the LOTD which starts off with a SJ and then goes into the fast reel. Any ideas for this? We were thinking he could be the Lord and she could dance around him as he does simple poses and steps. It is all supposed to be fun so any ideas for us?

- I tried to book last week and was told that nothing was available in the block. - I got a deluxe room outside the block just today and was told that the block was full. Over $200/night (NT) -- If the block is not full then I've been bilked, Tue, October 13, 02:43:13pm
- Disappointing - we wanted to stay at the venue hotel for the convenience but would only do so at the block rate. Otherwise that hotel is too expensive. Damn. I hope this is an employee error or something. (NT) -- :-(, Tue, October 13, 02:44:50pm
- OP here. I reported my experience to Ryan Carroll. Ryan responded and copied Yvonne Kelly. I urge all of you with similar experiences to send an email to Mr. Carroll and/or Mrs (Miss?) Kelly with your details. (NT) -- BFD, Tue, October 13, 03:12:55pm
- Totally ridiculous. It's not like there's an awful lot going on in Niagara Falls in November that would require them to keep their rooms unblocked, as it were. And it's not as if we haven't been holding the Oireachtas there for almost ever. You'd think they could be just a little more flexible in the middle of a recession. We didn't book early because we had to pay upfront, and couldn't afford to at the time. Now we may not get a room (NT) -- at all., Tue, October 13, 03:27:02pm

Rene Deprez -- Rose Johnson, Thu, October 08, 08:46:06pm
It is with great sadness that the Executive of the I.D.T.A.C. announces the passing of a long time friend. Rene Deprez passed away the morning of October 7th, 2009. As many of you will recall, Rene was one of the very generous people who manned the doors at many feisanna, and most recently and for many years at our Eastern Canadian Oireachtas. Rene will be greatly missed. He was a fantastic guy that you could always count on. At our Oireachtas he was always on time, ready to do whatever it took to make the job happen. Rene never, ever complained about having to be the first person down to open the doors to greet the parents and the dancers every morning. Rene took his job seriously and always made everyone feel welcome. We extend our heartfelt condolances to his family and friends. He will be truly missed!

For those going to NAN's, here is an opportunity for a Free day at Disneyworld. Found on Redflagdeals website.... Link included below -- ;), Tue, October 06, 06:32:00pm
Do One Day of Volunteering and Get One Day’s Free Admission to Disney World or Disneyland!
You can get a free day's admission to Disneyland or Disney World just by doing a day of volunteer work. This super-hot offer from Disneyland and Disney World doesn't start until January 1, 2010, but it's definitely one you'll want to include in your calendar.
Here's how it works: Starting January 1, 2010, you can sign up for eligible volunteer opportunities with participating organizations (all the Canadian opportunities will be run through Volunteer Canada). After you complete your volunteer activity, you will receive an email from Disney prompting you to log in to your account and print a vouchers your free ticket to a Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme park.
You have to be six years old or older to participate in the program. You must be 18 years of age or older to sign up, and each person to sign up can sign-up a maximum of eight additional household members.
The fine print clearly states that this offer is valid in Canada -- kudos to Disney for including their neighbors to the North!

New FREE MUSIC from Mark Arrington for a limited time. -- Mark Arrington, Wed, October 07, 10:48:44am
My new CD "CHAMPTRAX" will be released in the next few weeks. The CD is mostly championship-length tunes played once, twice, and three times through. There are also four non-championship-length tune tracks. Until the release, you can download the non-championship-length tune tracks from the CD for free from the “Music Samples” page of my site www.markarringtonmusic.com. The tunes are jigs (113 bpm, 5+ minutes), single jigs (120, bpm 4+ minutes), reels (113 bpm, 4+ minutes), and hornpipes (138 bpm, 6 minutes). If you want any of these at a different speed you can order them on the “Order Music and Stuff” page.
