  • Oireachtas hotel booking info -- taken from website..., Thu, August 04, 03:29:40pm
Hotel Booking Information: (as at August 4, 2016)
    - Sheraton Centre Hotel, 123 Queen Street West in downtown Toronto
    - Call the toll free number at 1-888-627-7175 (reservations now open) and state that they are part of the 2016 Eastern Canadian Oireachtas Competition or book online using this code: https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/Book/2IK08A
    - The hotel block has a large inventory of double-double rooms, all non-smoking
    - Should you wish to book a suite, that must be done by call-in only. Here is some info on the suites. If there are issues booking the suites at the rates below, e-mail your teacher with your details/needs and have them email me (Ryan Carroll).
-Please be aware that a one-night non-refundable deposit will be taken at the time of booking, and that the cut-off date to make reservations under the group block with the negotiated group rate is Tuesday, October 18th as per the contract, which is $160 a night plus taxes. [Regular double-double room prices are from $230 a night plus taxes.]
-Guests wanting rooms booked for the 8th, 9th, 14th or 15th might have to call a different person. The preferred rate is guaranteed for those nights but inventory is held separately. Have your teacher contact me with your needs if that is the case and we'll help you.
    - Finally, it has been a long time since the Oireachtas was held in Toronto, in large part due to availability of hotels in the city at an affordable cost. The event relies heavily on discounted meeting space to run the competition which is achieved only when satisfying the negotiated room block and meeting other criteria. It was always a concern that with so many families living in the Greater Toronto Area, they would not choose to stay in the host hotel and the event would suffer financially. We are fortunate that Irish dance has expanding so much over the past thirty years that we are in a position to give Toronto a try. So please consider supporting the event by booking in the host hotel for the weekend. The Sheraton just finished a renovation over $100 million, updating the convention space and guest rooms and has so far been delightful to work with.

    Regular Rooms
-Double/Double or King beds, 1-4 persons $160 plus taxes
    Suites (limited inventory)
    - BLP / King Bed in Large parlour; Parlour $220; adjoining bedrooms $160 each
    - Large parlour / pull out sofa (no bed) $300; adjoining bedrooms $160 each
    - Self-contained Suite / small parlour with pull out & king bed in adjoining bedroom $220

Schedule Info: (as at May 9, 2016)
-the typical schedule shown below is tentative and will be confirmed prior to the opening of the hotel block
-Friday - U8-U15 boys and girls championships
-Saturday - adult teams, U16 and older boys/men and girls/ladies championships
-Sunday - all premiere & non-adult team events

Just perusing the Nans info and see the splits will be a lottery - this will really change the landscape. As we all know, in the past birthdate determined the split and the number of competitors of course. It will shake things up for sure and the youngest of the olds might actually have a better chance of recalling. Good luck to everyone on their draw this year!

  • Confused -- Feisin Momma, Sat, June 11, 06:45:32pm
I was hoping someone could enlighten me. My daughter competed in a comp earlier today and was the only one that danced, because the other girl never showed. And when we went to look at her results for the day, she came in 2nd and the other girl in first, yet she never danced. And when I asked how the other girl placed at all when she never danced, they told me she danced at another time because the stages were messed up. Yes the stages were changed at times, but that comp was always scheduled on that stage. So my question is, is that even allowed? I've always known the rule to be if you don't show at the set time, you don't dance.

  • THE Murray Academy, Exeter, NH -- The Murray Academy Feis 2016, Sat, May 28, 07:23:50pm
    Hello Friends,

On behalf of Cara Rince, the parent group of Murray Academy, we would like to thank you for joining us at our feis this coming weekend! We have worked diligently to ensure a fun, well-organized event for all competitors. We have tried to plan for every contingency, yet are wise enough to know that some things are beyond our control. We will do our best to keep things running smoothly throughout the day. Most information can be found on our website, www.murrayacademyfeis.com, but there are a few
few additional ‘housekeeping items’ we would like to highlight:

The New Hampshire seacoast is a popular tourist destination in summer. The weekend forecast is predicting a warm, sunny weekend, which could mean heavier than normal traffic on the major highways heading north due to the tolls. Please consider this as you plan to drive up on Sunday.

Sanborn High School is a new venue for us. It is a newer school, and parking will be plentiful. The auditorium, cafeteria, and Large gym are air-conditioned; the small gymnasiums is not, so we have secured a number of large fans to keep the dancers as cool as possible.

If it is a nice day, champ awards will take place in the courtyard behind the cafeteria. If it rains, they will be inside the cafeteria. Approximate times will be posted for your convenience. Grade awards will be a the far end of the main hall, to the right of the front entrance. Postings will be in the main hall and toward the right. Results will also be posted on Twitter and our Facebook page.

If you would like photos to commemorate your dancer’s day, Murray the Moose will be with us, and your dancer can take a picture with him! Pictures will cost $10.

Please try to join us for lunch in the cafeteria. We have worked very hard to provide delicious and nutritious offerings for our guests. Additionally, we are running a bake sale to support our dancers heading to Nationals in July. We also have several wonderful vendors joining us, so please take some time to visit them if you can.

Of special note is our amazing raffle basket, worth over $500! For a photo and description of the basket, visit the Murray Academy Feis Facebook page.

If you have any questions or need help just look for our CREW wearing the bright yellow shirts.

Again, we look forward to seeing you all. We wish you safe travels.

    The Murray Feis Committee

  • How do you stay motivated? Finding it to be a challenge - See Inside -- Dancer, Fri, April 22, 11:32:02am
I am finding it harder and harder to keep myself motivated lately. I find my dances to be boring, although my teacher tells my I am doing them very well. Most of my friends in my dance class have moved to other schools or have just quit.
I am in a class with younger dancers at lower levels and they look to me to motivate them as I used to look to the older girls to motivate me. I still love to dance but all the fun has gone away and it feels more like a chore now than a love.
I don't want to quit, I just don't know how to get motivated.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

    Single age groups for PC O12 & C O13

That was a copy and paste.

On efeis C13 and C12 are combined.

Is their an error with the efeis template? At the Mae and Paddy feis C12 and C13 are split so hoping it is the same for this feis.

Hope all the other feises do the same! Very intimidating for the younger kids in a double age group.
