Driving question for Oakville to Niagara region -- 3dancersmom, Sat, September 05, 09:18:39am
We will be driving to Syracuse feis on the friday night. I will not be able to leave Toronto until 9:30pm. So, what is the QEW like with all the construction etc. from about 1030pm? I am trying to decide between crossing @ Buffalo or going east to Gananoque and crossing there. I live on the east side of downtown Toronto.
Yes, I do plan ahead this far. It is a curse, LOL.

- Don't worry, I'm the same way. :) Have you tried mapquesting or google mapping it to see which route comes up? At 9:30pm I don't think traffic will be too bad whichever direction you head (NT) -- :), Sat, September 05, 11:21:02am
- I think Buffalo is preferable. As much as Toronto to Buffalo can be messy, that route along the 401 towards Kingston is miserable, too many big trucks, too many curves, too dark, I really don't like it at night. The route 90E over to Syracuse to Syracuse is straighter, fewer cars, fewer trucks but more cops so watch your speed. If you aren't leaving till late you shouldn't have much trouble from here to Buffalo. It's also shorter that way. Cross at Fort Erie, it's almost always better than Queenston Lewiston. Call 18007156722 on your way and it will give you the best border to cross. (NT) -- have a good time, Sat, September 05, 02:37:54pm
- As a Rochester resident, may I suggest:: -- Upstate Feis'er on the Freeway, Sun, September 06, 08:34:40pm
- Suggest crossing at the Rainbow Bridge versus the Peace Bridge. Peace Bridge will be heavy with commercial trucks at night. You may also want to look at staying somewhere between Buffalo/Rochester Friday night to have shorter drive in the morning. (NT) -- x, Sun, September 06, 08:44:22pm

Stamina question for other dancers -- not much of an excersise expert, Fri, September 04, 09:49:52pm
I have been off dancing for quite a while but am beginning again this month. To help rebuild my stamina I have begun running every night. Because of this I have been experiencing intense pain in all the muscles of my legs. I know this may just be because my body is not used to so much excersise, but I am wondering (if any dancers know) will my pain lesson if I continue to run or am I damaging myself more by running? i begin casses next week but at the moment can hardly even lift my leg!!

- i've found that skipping rope is the best thing to build stamina. It is hard on the calfs at first but it will develop those muscles that you need for dance. (NT) -- Senior dancer, Fri, September 04, 10:51:50pm
- See inside... -- c, Fri, September 04, 11:39:00pm
- for right now, let the soreness ease before you run more, and do lots of stretching. If you run hard while you're really sore, you risk pulling a muscle. In the meantime, switch to something else (swimming, biking) to cross-train. (NT) -- good luck, Sat, September 05, 08:23:12am
- swimming laps, especially underwater, helps build stamina very well, but i aslo skip because overdoing one exercise can hurt you because you are not working different muscles. :) (NT) -- :) :) :), Sat, September 05, 01:51:14pm

Wow! What a great feis. -- Congrats GC, Sat, August 29, 04:51:17pm
What a great day. In and out by 4:00. All events were finished and awarded by 4:00 this afternoon. One of my dd's almost missed her comp because we just aren't used to things running so smoothly and so fast.
Too bad the tea room was so congested at Lunch but other than that, I loved the venue. Great to see a few new faces judging, loved the space, didn't mind not having a lawn chair (will do the yoga mat thing next year) and thought every volunteer I dealt with was great.
Thanks GC and looking forward to another great feis next year.

- Agree!!! Was a GREAT venue!!!! Grade results were posted really fast as well. Only complaint, and not about the Feis, but I did notice a few PARENTS who I'm assuming were told to use tennis balls for their chair legs, then when dd's & ds's were finished, just took them off then threw them along the side of the wall....volunteers shouldn't have to be garbage collectors too. Liffey Rivers Books Availabilty In Canada -- Brenna Briggs, Wed, August 26, 07:59:03pm
To answer inquiries I have had about Liffey book availability in Canada: The first 3 Liffey Rivers Irish Dancer mysteries are now available directly from website (www.liffeyrivers.com) via Paypal and credit cards via Paypal. Shipped from Wisconsin where I am presently caring for my Alzheimered mother. They will be signed (personalized upon request)and come with a good luck spaghetti and meatballs charm.
Amazon.ca has books 1 and 3 listed at a reasonable price but 2nd book (Winking Judge) just will not sort itself out in computerland. It is not being sold by amazon.ca (just by 3rd parties)and I have no idea why. I have tried for one year to fix this situation. So best $ deal probably would be to buy books 1 and 3 from Amazon.ca while they are very reasonably priced and book 2 from website. So sorry I cannot seem to fix amazon problem!
Thanks very much!

FEIS ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA -- Becky Cunningham, Sun, August 23, 04:29:17pm
Get your Halloween costumes ready and join us for our new feis dates--
Registration is now open at Feisworx for our 7th Feis Orange County (yes, 2 in one year!). The feis will be held on October 24 and 25, 2009.
We are returning to the Doubletree Hotel (the site of our February feis). The hotel address is Doubletree Hotel Anaheim/Orange County, 100 The City Drive, Orange, California. The hotel website is http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/SNACCDT-Doubletree-Hotel-Anaheim-Orange-County-California/index.do.
These are our new dates--we will no longer have a feis in February.
We have a fantastic group rate for hotel rooms of $99.00 ($20 less than the February room rate). The cut-off date for hotel reservations at this Irish dance rate is October 1, 2009.
The preliminary schedule is as follows:
SATURDAY: All championships, all ages; all championship specials; 13&O First Feis and 13&O Beginner through Prizewinner and special competitions; Catherine O’Connor Memorial Special, music competition, and all adult competitions will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
SATURDAY: Halloween special--Our “fun” special danced to reel music. Halloween costume or attire must be worn. This special will be danced at the end of the day on Saturday.
SUNDAY: All U7 through U13 First Feis through Prizewinner and all U7 through U13 special competitions; and all Team Competitions will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2009.
I am aware that there may be Homecoming games and dances this weekend as well as SAT’s and will keep that in mind when the time schedule for the weekend is prepared. If this will affect your dancer, could you please e-mail me and let me know? My plan was to have the high school age dancers scheduled for the morning so they could go to Homecoming dances, but if more will be affected by SAT’s, I may need to change that.
You may register and pay for your entry at www.feisworx.com.
Information can be found by visiting our website at www.fearon-oconnor.com.
Additional questions can be directed to feisorangecounty@hotmail.com.
Get your pre-oireachtas dancing shoes ready and enjoy some Halloween fun and a great weekend in Orange County!

How do you know if a feis is running PC/OC youngest to oldest or vice versa? -- new PC mom, Wed, August 19, 04:01:51pm
I found Oakville's and see that it's youngest to oldest.
What about June Butler and Newmarket? I can't find it on their websites or in the syllabus for either feis and I never paid attention before.
Trying to figure if we need to say the night before or the night of? Thanks in advance.

OAKVILLE FEIS - last week for entries - entries close midnight August 21st -- OFA, Mon, August 17, 09:14:01pm
Our venue this year is a brand-new indoor soccer facility that has the finest field turf available. There is plenty of room for blanket camping on the fields but the Oakville Soccer Club does not allow any lawn chairs because of potential damage to the turf from the chair legs. The venue has agreed to allow us to bring in lawn chairs ONLY if cut tennis balls are placed on each leg to disperse the pressure. Please bring your own tennis balls if you plan on bringing lawn chairs. We will not allow lawn chairs on the turf without tennis ball "booties".
ONLY WATER will be allowed on the fields - NO food or drink. There will be a tea room set up outside the field area in a community room with tables and chairs. We will be offering a bake sale, coffee, tea, drinks, and pizza/subs for lunch.
We apologize for any inconvenience but we're giving up some things in order to have AIR CONDITIONING for everyone! There is also a water park just outside the venue. Also, please be aware that the washrooms have access from within the building and also from the park outside. Parents, please watch little ones as they can exit the building through the washrooms.
Thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation the Oakville Feis is pleased to offer all brand new stages, with Harlequin flooring on the preliminary and open championship stages. The grade stages will be 24' x 24', the prelim stage will be 24' x 28' and the champ stage will be 28' x 32'. Preliminary and open championship competitions will run from youngest to oldest.

Just wanted to send out a quick thank you to the Windsor Feis committee for a very nicely run feis yesterday. -- Irishmama, Sun, August 16, 09:40:58am
After so much moaning and groaning on the boards, the feis did not go on forever, the air conditioning worked and all in all, I was very happy with the feis. The volunteers were all nice, and helpful to us.
It is always interesting to me how vocal people are worrying about problems before the feis happens and then are strangely quiet when it is over and all the big problems did not occur.
Anyway, Thanks Windsor!
