Subject: Re: Cost of doing business. Would you rather lose 3% per entry (say $2.00 on average), or lose the entire revenue from that potential entry (say $70 on average), because you've made it harder for Americans to enter and they might just say it's not worth the effort? Besides, by accepting USD at par, which they are doing, losing 3% per entry pales in comparison to the 40% they are making on the exchange rate.

Paypal would be nice, and maybe they will do that next year, but I couldn't help but comment on the sense that a Cdn feis is making 40% extra by taking US at par. (not specifically referring to you, but things I've heard overall being said...just seemed a good place to post)

Sadly the Canadian feisanna really don't have much choice but to take US$ at par. The Cdn feisanna dance fees are pretty much the same as you see in the U.S. for the most part, so US dancers aren't paying any more than they would to dance at a US feis and they do save quite a bit in travel costs where they are getting exchange on hotels, etc. But by giving exchange the feis actually loses about 40% versus what a US feis would bring in per dancer, yet they still have to pay all the adjudicators and musicians a set fee that is in US$ which is set by the NAFC and pay their travel expenses and such in US$ for at least 1/2 of them and usually more.

The ECR feisanna already have far fewer registrations than most US feisanna so if they also take a 40% hit in incoming funds while still paying expenses in U.S. funds, they wouldn't be able to run.
