Maryse,
Your posting make me ponder what we can do in our daily life to become less selfish and more giving. Here are some ideas that I can think of:
- Try to moan less about our own problems and see that others are suffering more than us.
- The struggles and suffering that we have gone or is going through is to purify our soul and to make us learn and evolve.
- Try to help others within our means and capacity. A genuine smile, a useful advice, showing kindness to the poor and the needy etc. There are unlimited ways we can do it and we only need the willingness.
- Sharing our experience, knowledge etc to others so that in positive sharing, we all learn something.
- Listening to others with patience so that they feel less lonely in their struggles through life.
- Try to put ourselves in the shoes of the other person.
- Have positive thoughts instead of negative thoughts towards our neighbours.
We do all the above without expecting anything in return. We have the same state of mind whether we are covered with roses of gratitude or with a rain of insults. We give to the less and to those who are down and we receive from the more and from those who are more evolved. The latter is also doing the same thing, giving to us and receiving from the beings who are purer. The chain goes on and on ...
We are a small "community" here who believe in the after life, spirits, spirituality and the paranormal. We can talk openly about it without being ridiculed or laughed at because in some way, we understand each other or else we would not be here.
Spirituality at the end of the day is not about having great mediumship or psychic abilities. I was suprised to find out that it was about purifying oneself, evolving and not being selfish. Not all great priests, mediums, monks etc are spiritual.
The word "Sel Fish" contains the word Fish and there is a quote which says "D'ont give a man a Fish but show him how to fish". "Sel" means salt in French and may be when we are selfish, we look like a salted fish !
