The ultimate goal is to develop a planetary consciousness and a planetary sense of responsibility. That's why we have to learn to have "a vision from the sky", in the brightness of the Light, and to be totally detached about the earthly nasties and pettiness.
It is in the service for the humanity, in the help of the humans and all life on the planet that there is the most of spiritual energy, and the most personal growth! We have to use any skill we have for helping the neighbours: skill of writing, skill of translation, skill of healing, medicine skill, technical skill, etc… Our time, energy, knowledge, understanding, our brain, our muscles for loving service, to help and transmit the LIGHT. The more we help others, the more we attract sympathies too from the invisible world.
This is what Spirit Yogananda said in a trance seance:
Yogananda: I am rather intensely involved in bringing a stream of certain aspects of God’s love into the Earth realm. These are energies which come from beyond the planet, and I am involved in qualifying them and helping to transmit them so that they are more suitable for expression on Earth. This consumes a great deal of my attention and effort, and is a project which is very close to my heart. I’m doing this now, as I’m talking about it. Are you experiencing it, too?
Sitter: Oh, yes. There’s a very strong sense of sixth ray devotional love.
Yogananda: I’m still present occasionally in the Earth realm and can be depended on to pass these energies along. As some of my students know, I can be reached.
Sitter: So, in some ways, even though you have transcended Earth, you are still concerned with Earth?
Yogananda: Oh, Yes. I am deeply involved in the evolution of Earth and am concerned about the development of the people that I worked with in particular and humanity as a whole. My efforts are dedicated to helping the being who is the planet to evolve.
Sitter: From what you’ve just said, then it sounds as if UNION WITH GOD (mediumship and consciousness evolution in the LIGHT), is not the final objective of spiritual growth and living. Once this union itself is achieved, there follows vast possibilities for working in harmony with God and divine energies? (service with kindness and charitableness)
Yogananda: That is true. The goal of spiritual growth is union with God, but then comes the responsibility for using that attainment in an enlightened manner, to help the evolution of life on this planet. Other planets too, but primarily this one.
Sitter: And whatever pathway you follow to achieve this union, even the passive pathway (meditations, concentrations, contemplative devotion, prayers,…), eventually there comes a time of rather intense activity.
Yogananda: Yes, we all end up at the same place, working for the same goal.
Sitter: Well, that doesn’t sound like the usual description of nirvana, where you lose yourself like a drop in an ocean. What you’re describing doesn’t sound like that at all.
Yogananda: Nirvana is not a goal; it is just a means for achieving other ends. It is the activity of returning to the source to become renewed, so that you can begin your outer activities again.
Sitter: In occult terms, you might say that you face the LIGHT for a certain period, and then become A TRANSMITTER OF THE LIGHT – but you never get lost in the light. Is that right?
Yogananda: That’s right. You don’t disappear into nothingness.
Sitter: Oh, thank God! [Laughter] Of course, I could stand to lose few pounds. [More laughter.]
Yogananda: Yes, couldn’t we all. Let me make few concluding remarks. I would hope that THE INTELLIGENT WESTERNER, the person who has A LOVE FOR TRUTH and a DEDICATION TO DOING GOOD WORK, would appreciate that Eastern traditions can make a valuable contribution to the West and even to his own life. But this can only happen if he investigates the Eastern traditions with thoughtfulness and, most of all, love. It’s easy to condemn practices you don’t understand and reject them as heathen, but I invite ALL GOOD PEOPLE to look beyond that level and delve into the rich and valuable and profound traditions of the East, which have been a blessing to this planet for thousands of years. These traditions are well worth studying, pursuing, developing, and preserving. That is not to say that they should be used without adaptation, but there is much of value to be found there.
In some ways, the East is ahead of the West. In other ways, the West is ahead of the East. But to the genuine spiritual aspirant, the notion of who is ahead of whom is not even a legitimate question. The East is not competing with the East. The East and the West are twin elements of the spiritual path to divine life. There is much value in both traditions.
I will leave it at that, hoping that the men and women of goodwill who will read these words will understand that they are said with love and with the hope that the integration of East and West will be approached with enlightenment and wisdom and a good deal of love.
And if I may, I would like to add a personal comment to those I worked with and to those who have read and studied my material. I would like to say that I am still present. The people I have known and the people who have studied with me, not only in the physical plane but also on the inner planes, are dear to my heart and I am still here. I will be with them as long as they need my help and love and guidance.
But I would also ask them not to rest on my teachings alone, but to begin to add to them and to look beyond them, because there is more wisdom and love in this world than can be expressed through one individual. While I am with them always, I would hope they would take what I have taught and listen to what others teach and continue to grow, moving always toward their own union with God.
Sitter: Very good.
Yogananda: Thank you. I send my love.”
But to work efficiently, one has to have total FREEDOM, and to know first how to PROTECT oneself, staying at great distance from the jealous abusers who want to hinder the good work with Spirits's cooperation! “Before to heal the others, we have to wait for the hospital to be built”. We have to learn everything about the hostile environment on this planet, about how to walk with discretion, etc. One cannot heal the others, if he is not able to take care of HIS OWN SAFETY first...
