Talk about self-aggrandisement! Not content with the Mediums' Petition rubbish, these self-appointed gurus are now handing out the gongs, arranging insurance and generally - ah what's the use ...? Updates On The Fraudulent Mediums Act & The Spiritual Workers Association I must apologise from the outset at again contacting you and if you are already up to date, I’m sorry! But, I’m sure by now that you are aware of the importance of the forthcoming changes to the law and how they will affect all things the Government classes as “Spiritualistic Services”. It is also important that as many spiritual workers as possible are aware of the changes. FMA There has been a great deal of verbal and written correspondence with the Senior Civil Servant at the DERR who is formulating and controlling the changes from next month (April 2008) and the OFT Regulating Department. Much of this is or will be published on the SWA website or in the April edition of the monthly Spiritualist News International. Petitions The Number 10 online petition which closed on 6 Feb 08 had 2,612 signatures The Manual petition (which are still arriving) closed on the 17 Mar 08, after requests for an extended deadline, has a further 2189 signatures. These two together show 4, 801 concerned people nationwide. We will be presenting these two petitions by hand to number 10 Downing Street sometime in the near future, at a date still to be arranged – The date will be publicised on the SWA website and you are all welcome to come along. SWA (www.theswa.org.uk) Structure The SWA is now the umbrella group that is bringing all individuals, organisations and businesses together to form a governing body. By working together we will raise standards across the sector and give spiritual workers a recognised voice and the respect they deserve. We now have regional organisers in almost all areas and membership is growing rapidly. Recent additions to the site include revised medium guidelines, Code of Conduct and the Constitution, all of which members can comment and vote on. Much of the information can only be accessed if you are a member but membership is free. Insurance The SWA has negotiated a very good annual insurance rate of £20.50. This covers all methods/types of Healing, Mediumship, Alternative Therapies, Spiritual Ministry, etc. Events Internationally/Nationally The first International Freelife Mind, Body, Spirit Festival & Gala – 26/27 Jul 08 at Ayr Racecourse. Being run jointly by The Scottish Spiritualist Federation, The International Spiritual Federation, with The SWA. Awards The awards to be presented at the Gala are designed to assist those who are new to Spiritual Life or are interested in finding out more. Hence these awards are not aimed at promoting individuals. The categories are for magazines, books, centres/churches, CD’s etc that people would recommend to others as a good example of the spiritual way of life. We are still looking for sponsors for individual categories at £200 each (this covers the cost of the meal for the three finalists and their partner in each category and the award itself). Regionally The Welsh region are holding the first event ‘Fair and Gala’ at Bridgend on the 31 May 08. Other regions will also be holding their own events in the coming months.
