Bottom line is that Lafayette is on a roll right now with their new stadium/scoreboard/locker rooms etc. and have finally caught up with Lehigh in terms of facilities.

In the end they have an advantage of the on campus facility versus Lehigh's over the Mountain facilities in terms of student convenience.

Couple that with Lehigh's terrible bus system and Lafayette has a decided advantage in terms of the college football experience.

I think you're overstating the "advantage" from being directly on-campus. It MAY only be an advantage for students, not anyone else. When I was at Lehigh in the early 90's, there was never any issue with having to go over the mountain to the stadium. In fact, I think students like it because you were getting away from campus for a few hours and Lehigh's stadium set-up has a "big-time" feel to it. If anything is affecting Lehigh's student attendance it is 1)Team hasn't performed well in recent years including multiple losses to LC and 2) Administration has sharply curtailed student tailgating.

LUHawker is absolutely right. Lehigh was averaging close to 12,000 a game in the late 90's early 00's. Sure the team was on a phenomenal run, but the harrassment of the students by the administration has had a marked impact on student interest in attendance. Students have complained about having to give breathalyzers in order to use the bus service. The atmosphere on the Goodman campus is incomparable, when the weather cooperates. Plenty of parking and areas to spread out with the tailgates. Activities for the youngsters and the stadium is still more comfortable than than any other. Plenty of room in the restrooms (and they're heated!), concessions are plentiful and easily accessible, and the scenery is second to none. Yes the scoreboard is 'out of date' but I expect that will be upgraded in near future and not a big deal anyway.
If you look up the attendance averages when we played at Taylor, it was no different than now--averaging between 7500-10,000 on most years.
