Subject: Losing to Colgate is the low point of any season

They are bad, the reported crowd was 450 (apparently 250 would be more accurate) just a lousy showing to a lesser program. They whipped LU, that is that. 32-32 rebounding edge. I'd say LU cannot be considered among the top three in the league now.
Wow. A loss to colgate.

Look at the last 20 years. Who is the lesser program? The last 10? the entire history of the two teams? Do you think Lehigh as a "better program" because there are more locals available to show up for games?

Compare the number of NBA players to come out of Colgate with Lehigh. Or Lafayette. Or Bucknell.
Ernie Vandeweghe, Carl Braun, Bob Duffy, Adonal Foyle. We have a tradition, and it doesn't include dubious transfers.

well when you lower admissions and expectations just to get kids to come to nowhere in front of 200, tradition will happen. congrats.

Congrats on your "tradition". Army football has more "tradition" than the University of Florida football. See how much that means today?

As for the reality of the current situation, it has not been close over the last several years as to who has a better program. For argument's sake, here are some stats since 2002 (Billy Taylor's first year at Lehigh):

Patriot League Record:
Lehigh 50-34
Colgate 38-46

Head-to-Head Record:
Lehigh leads 9-6 (includes last night)

Postseason Head-to-Head Record:
Lehigh leads 2-0

Times Colgate finished ahead of Lehigh in the final league standings: Once (2002-03) in six years

Total Losing Patriot League Records:
Lehigh 0
Colgate 3

This is why we are very disappointed in losing last night to what we consider an inferior opponent.

how convenient to measure your success from 2002. What a joke. Lehigh is a wrestling school and bball is a club sport.

This is pure sour grapes from the fans here. Colgate has been tough at home, period. Yes, they've lost games there, but they've come awful close to knocking off Harvard and Lafayette.

This was a classic "tweener" game in a place to play that is tougher than one might think. Lehigh laid a huge goose egg, and Colgate found an outside shooter. Boom, Colgate wins.

What is killing Lehigh is Hall's lack of consistency - and the lack of production on the bench when Hall is struggling. When Hall's shots are falling, Lehigh can beat anyone in the league. When they're not, we're probably a sixth or seventh place team. It's as simple as that.

Lafayette was picked to finish eighth in the league...since when is coming close to "almost knocking them off" impressive?

Lafayette students aren't back yet and I still don't have a good feeling about Saturday.

"Colgate has been tough at home, period."

What? Until last night, Colgate was winless at home. Here are the powerhouse programs that beat them:
Kennesaw State
UC Riverside
New Hampshire
Harvard
And American beat Colgate in Hamilton by 30 points. That's right, they lost at home by 30. To team that we are supposed to challenge for the league this year. And four days later, we lose by 13.

There is NO justification for this loss. Colgate is one of the worst teams in the country (ranked 307 of 344 in Pomeroy rankings).

Saturday's game is a must-win.

I think they are 0-5 at home. That is not tough. Is that record incorrect?

[> Last ten years -- 'gate88, 13:17:09 01/22/09 Thu

In last ten full seasons:

Colgate 63-71 in PL, 136-152 overall
Lehigh 61-73 in Pl, 127-166 overall

And we are the far inferior program? i call it a tie.

Look at the five years preceeding those ten, and it's not even close.

Your best player over those ten years was a transfer that warranted penalties from the NCAA. Take him out of equation and it's one horrid record for the brownhawks, engineers, whatever...

[> What is Kennesaw State? -- BERTHA, 15:39:10 01/22/09 Thu

Is that Kennesaw State Penitentiary? Kennesaw State Juvenile Correctional Center?
It's a bad loss for Lehigh. Almost every team stumbles during the season but the team was never in this one.
It is hardly a `tweener' game, classic or otherwise, sandwiched between a couple teams picked to finish at or near the bottom.
The shooting was horrendous and might Colgate is now 1-5 at home.
