I do not recall it that way. There was some people who just did not like the coach and did not understand the reality of Lehigh football.
I was generally happy with 9 wins per year average and the playoffs. Ohio State fired Earl Bruce for nine-win years but Lehigh should have done all it could to keep Lembo.
It is still mind-boggling what happened.

Lehigh could not keep Lembo. Pete was very young and looking to 'move up' and the 'no lose' opportunity came along: Going to a losing program where the the only way to go was up, and by doing so sets him up for the next upward move.Secondly, going to a full athletic scholarship program and league that makes recuiting so much easier. Plus a very nice school that has similarities to Lehigh. Pete like Lehigh alot, but the move was in his best interest.
As for 'Air Lehigh'--I believe we're looking to return to the days of Stambaugh and some quality receivers and good reliable back. BUT keeping a strong focus on defense. THAT is where championships are won. Small ran a very good 'Air Lehigh' offense,but ignored the defense. That I do not want to return to.

Lembo sucked a mean dick...Lehigh lost a good one letting him get away.
