Ease up there Raider Red Head... You guys beat Lafayette while we had our 2nd string QB our third string TB and our All American LB hobbled with a high-ankle sprain. You stole a win vs. us too. I think HC hands Colgate their ass next week.

Pard 94,

First, Lehigh moved the ball more effectively against 'Gate that Lafayette did.

Second, Lehigh was a threat to win until the final minute of the contest. Lafayette's last hurrah was a late 3Q field goal. Offensively, the Leopards packed it in and were no shows in the fourth quarter.

Third, all teams play through injuries. Colgate did it when they lost Relph early in the season and Scott against Cornell. Lehigh was banged up on and still played well. The rehash of the Leopard injury report gets tiresome.

Fourth, from this Gate fan's perspective, Lehigh was, is, and continues to be a far more dangerous opponent than Lafayette. The series record speaks for itself. The Mountain Hawks have beaten Colgate in 3 of the their last 5 meetings, have won 6 of 13 during the Biddle era, have compiled a winning record against Colgate at home, and hold a 13-10 series edge over Colgate since the formation of the PL. The Leopards, on the other hand, are 1 for their last 13 against the Raiders and are 7-15-1 in the PL era. To put it in Pennsylvania baseball terms, playing Lehigh is akin to facing Ryan Howard, while playing Lafayette is like pitching to Carlos Ruiz.

Looking ahead, I share concerns about Holy Cross. Air Dom is certainly going to score points on the Colgate defense. To counter Randolph, Colgate needs to run the ball effectively and control TOP. I see a game filled with lots of HC 3-4 minute passing drives and CU 7-8 minute rushing drives.

As for Lafayette, it's in for some long afternoons against the Crusader and Engineer passing attacks -- with or without first team players.

Yes, injuries happen every team but do you suppose the injuries might have had something to do with Lafayette looking like they "packed it in"? I mean we certainly didn't look like we packed it in against you in the first half.

I was impressed with Eachus...but that's all you guys have (with Scott out). It turned out to be enough against our descimated team and it was barely enough to beat a 3-5 team in Lehigh.

As for your analysis of your team and our team going forward...whatever, Homer. You're defense is supect at best. When healthy ours is the best in the league. You may need to put Eachus back in at Linebacker to have a chance at all. When Lafayette plays HC next week it will showcase the league's best Offense against the league's best Defense. When you guys play them it will be Randolph picking your team apart like they were playing the JV.

I never said your first half performance wasn't good. The "pack it in" comment was in reference to play down the stretch.

In the fourth quarter, the LC offense managed only 8 plays and 10 yards against CU. The LC defense spent nearly 12 minutes on the field and surrendered 150 yards. That may have been bend don't break D, but it wasn't effective enough to win. You need to play four, rather 2 1/2, quarters of football, my friend.

Best defense? Hmmm, we'll see about that after the Leopards face two more offensively skilled teams. Facing LU and HC won't be quite the same as playing the likes of Marist, Georgetown, Columbia, and Fordham. Harvard, Liberty, and Colgate all moved the pigskin against the Leopards.

As for HC, their offense is going to score points. The Crusader air game is that good regardless of who their opponent is, whether it be a CAA, Ivy, or PL team. They'll prove that again versus both LC and CU. Nevertheless, CU at least has some offense of its own to keep the ball out of Randolph's hands. Lehigh managed 375 yards and 25 minutes of possession against HC. In comparison to Lehigh, LC is more offensively challenged. The Leopards' 361 yd/game average seems insufficient for getting the job done against HC.

But, we'll see.

At the 9:40 mark of the 3rd quarter when Curley left due to the blow to the head, the offensive stats were Lafayette 240 Colgate 64.

The statement that "Lafayette's offense packed it in" is a ridiculous comment that ignores the fact that a QB with 2 years experience was replaced by a soph w/ 2 PLAYS experience. It's a lot like when Sullivan took over for Relph vs Stony Brook: first six series resulted in--an interception, four punts and a FG.

Congrats to Colgate on their wins over The Valley teams. I'm sure the Lehigh fans are consoled by your pick in The Rivalry.

Don't get too logical on them Andy. Facts and figures don't mesh well with their "curse" theories and overall "feelings and perceptions".

The only "curse" theory is 13-1.
