I sum up all the recruiting news, and I couldn't help but post the unconfirmed rumor about Matt Simms.

And Zach Barket is a beast. We may be talking about his the way folks were talking about Eachus last year. He looks like an exciting player.

yes he was a great player at the smallest level of PA football. but there was a reason he wasn't picked for even the east-west game, and there was a reason he wasn't recruited by bigger schools.

Now I'm not saying he'll definitely be as good as Eachus, but I am very happy that we are going to get this kid in here to find out.

And I'm no expert on HS FB, but those tapes look pretty impressive to me.

Lafayette got a pair of his teammates from schuylkill haven but didnt offer zack barket because of his speed on the corner.He jumped at lehigh's offer.

I hope that is not the case. Frank Tavani made his name as a RB recruiter extroidare-- Marsh, Costello, Leonard Moore, Joe McCourt, Billy Stocker etc. This kid may not be dominant in the PL but his HS performance is quite incredible. If Lafayette was confortable taking two other kids from his school, why were we not sold on him? I hope this doesnt come back to bite is in the a$$

Since Layfayette's admission standards are a step function below Lehigh's, it is hard to imagine their declining anyone who had the opportunity to go to Lehigh.

Dont kid yourself Lafayette and Lehigh's admission standard are virtually identical. I highly doubt very many kids get into Lafayette but not Lehigh and vice-versa. Also we know that athletes recieve special admission standards, so theroetically ones schools athletes can be of much greater qualityer then the other despite similar overall admission standards. We have heard that CAL admits FB players who are terrible students espite being a world class university.

Here's the SAT ranges of the football schools in the Patriot League from Forbes magazine:

Georgetown: 1300-1490
Lehigh: 1280-1450
Colgate: 1260-1430
Bucknell: 1230-1400
Holy Cross: 1210-1380
Lafayette: 1180-1390
Fordham: 1130-1330

How accurate is the information provided by PLFAN? First he said Lafayette didn't want the kid because he is too slow, then it was because he isn't smart enough to get into Lafayette. Maybe the kid choose Lehigh over Lafayette. That has been known to happen once or twice in the history of the world.

LFN has noted in another forum, AGS, that the figures provided by Forbes are innacurate. Information supplied by the College Board show Lafayette at 1190-1380 and Lehigh at 1230-1410. I do understand Lehigh has slightly higher SAT score ranges, but not enough to be all that significant.

Also PL Fan may not have any real information, never really agreed that he did. Also I in no way implied that Barkett wasnt smart enough to get into LAfayette or that Lafayette anbd Lehigh's admission standard for FB players differ.

Colgate's SAT's are higher than shown by Forbes as well.

Under the new AI, it does not matter what each schools average SAT is not non-football players. Formerly the AI was based on standard deviations from the mean SAT scores so G'Town could not admit a kid that Forham could. Under the new AI, there is a floor for everybody that is the same and then three bands. Each school is allowed a certain number of low band, more in the middle band, and unlimited in the top band. It makes no sense to say a certain kid could get into Laf. but not Lehigh, or anywhere else. What matters is how many slots in a particular band that school has available or is willing to use.
