Here are two links for more information on Holden Greiner. I don't know the quality of the league that his team plays in, but his Junior year statistics look pretty good. For a 6' 8" guy, he is surprisingly listed as a "G, F" and it shows in his three point shooting. He averaged 20.4 PPG and 10.8 RPG. Bankhoops.com has him listed as the #2 (Small) Forward in the state. This looks like a promising signing.

I have no idea how good Greiner is, but I can answer your question. As you might suspect from looking at the all-state team Greiner is on (which has no players from any of the strong teams in Michigan and none from any of the powerful Detroit schools), his all-state team was for Class C - the second smallest group of schools in Michigan. Playing for a small school in the rural northwest corner of Michigan, not surprisingly his schedule was very weak. St. Francis was ranked #168 in Michigan by MaxPreps and most of the teams they played were ranked MUCH lower than that.

Thus his H.S. stats are basically meaningless, but I am sure your coaches evaluated his ability purely from his AAU play and not from H.S. - which is normally the case anyway.

BTW, one of Bucknell's verbals (Colin Klebon) is in a similar situation, having run up great stats (26 ppg and 12.5 rpg) against mediocre competition in Central PA. I'm sure the Bucknell coaches, like the LU coaches, evaluated his ability solely from AAU play. (He was reportedly offered by LC and LU btw.)

saw the dude play on a summer team. parrellel 45 or something. above the rim with a handle. he is looonnnggg. interesting to see what position he plays in D1... could be a 2-he's go the shot from 3.
a steal for a mid major. should have gone big 10 but i guess wasn't seen?

Greiner was seen by Big 10 teams but he is nowhere near a Big 10 talent. In fact no MVC teams offered him a scholarship either, even though they also saw him. Also no MAC team made him an offer, even though they saw him play as well. He had three scholarship offers - American, Columbia, and Lehigh.

At Lehigh he will play the four.

Who told you he'd play the 4? Greiner is a 6-8 perimeter shooter with a guard's range. He's not a banger, he's not an outstanding defender, we got him to shoot and hope he improves around the basket and on D.

He won't play the 4 at Lehigh, since they recruited a 4 adn a 5 in the same class.
