Talk about this weekend's Brown/White game. I cannot wait to see which QB emerges the "winner" of the Spring session.

no running attack. 3 mediocre QBs. A small ineffective OL that was manhandled all game. Other than couple of nice catches by WRs the offense was incredibly weak. We couldn't even snap the ball on numerous FG attempts!

Defense though looked very good (perhaps b/c they were facing our offense?)....bottom line, we'll be lucky to be .500 this year.

Poor leadership at HC and mediocre staff that is not motivating or developing the offense. People quitting at key positions.
It appears we have a good recruiting and a good number 2 or 3 person that has put into the HC slot where he is out of his depth.

The game was uninspiring, even boring. Nobody thought the QB situation would be settled this spring, and that means hey, everybody was right!
Consider that we have a coach or scheme or whatever who took an all-league caliber QB and turned him into a benchwarmer and then sometime threat, and truly, the sky is the limit!
The spring game, to be fair, is rarely an indicator of what is to come. Let's certainly hope so this year.

Let's all remember that this is the "Spring Game" and the defense knows every play by now that the QB is calling at the line of scrimmage. Yes, kids still need to execute, but knowing you can get a pash rush instead of looking for the ball is a tremendous advantage.

I don't want to take anything away from the defense, they played well. My point is, I for one didn't see that kind of pressure on the opposing QB at all last year, accept maybe the G-Town game.

Our "O" line needs work, but again missing 2 of the top guys didn't help.

When was the last "Spring Game" that the defense didn't dominate?

I would have to put Bokoski winning the QB battle so far. He seems to have a good head about him and I understand he played the last series with a seperated shoulder so I guess thats the toughness LFN spoke about. I would have to put the lefty a close second. I wasn't impressed with Clark's ability to read the defense and he didn't show any real arm strength. The long pass was a real duck.

I would almost be more concerned with the RB situation. If McGowen goes down again the #2 guy although looks like he has the ability, is very green. (fumbles, dropped passes etc.) Neither QB is going to be succsesfull without a quality running game.

To sum it all up... the offense is very "bland" ecspecially the passing game! the routes are basic, and lack creativity ( Fordham has a nice short passing attack dumping off some short passes and using picks etc. to get recievers freed up)Coehn useed a nice blend of running and passing on the first series resulting in a pretty pass by Bokoski for a TD. After the first series it looked like a backyard pick up game!

The defensive secondary to me was the biggest improvement I saw from last season. The coverage was good throughout the day.

Our L-Backers are outstanding and are the strength of this team.

If our "O" line comes together, McGowen stays healthy, we find a "big play" maker at reciever, and our "D" line gets pressure up front, we will be 2 games above 500.

Was at the scrimmage. I thought the QB with the most to offer was Cisneros. I think given a summer of working on his footwork he will come into camp with a great shot at the #1 or #2 QB. The defense will be the backbone of the team if they don't have to come up with a big play after the O goes 3 and out all day.

Two picks, 1 for a 80 yars TD, broken plays. What did you see?

luhwk94,

I was at the game and agree with your statement. It was tough out there for the OL with talented starters Tiefenthal and Rackley hurt. Rackley (in the end is going to be one of the best ever at LU) was a 50% and only played the beginning part of the scrimmage.

It seemed they did nothing but dropback pass. Probably trying to evaluate young QB's. McGowan only carried 3 times. Walker only 6. Doesn't make sense.

Oh, Boy!

I chose to do something else yesterday, but the pubic reports about Brown/White lead me to believe the program is still in some sort of "funk."

I was hoping to read of a matured, efficient QB, a bigger and controlling O-line.

Also not feeling positive about players leaving the program.

There's time, I guess.

Dear Neighbor:

I neither read nor saw any "pubic" reports, but from the sounds of what you folks saw, I'm not sure I was better off reading the public ones, either.

Good news is no one has his hopes up ... like in years past.

Hope my post wasn't too trite -- didn't mean for it to be offensive; we all make typos.

See you in the fall.

It's the Spring Game...Coaches are looking for specific things, not trying to win a game. #1 was putting a lot of pressure on the OL and QBs to see who could handle the pressure. All three QBs showed some qualities, but without time no QB can get the job done on their back. Bokosky's TD throw was nice because he looked off a prior receiver with a nice touch into the back of the endzone.
Is Brad Walter hurt? He did the long snapping last year and wasn't out there.
Defense was stellar, but then, as someone else noted, knowing what is coming certain helps. Still I like the fact we did alot of blitzing and if the DBs can handle one on one, that will be a big plus.
Leo put on a great show punting. Field position and defense are 2/3 of winning. We don't have to be dynamic on offense, but we need to be efficient and move the ball. I shake my head at all the crepe hangers already. Give these kids a chance and we might be pleasantly surprised come September.

The "O" line is taking alot of grief over their play but let's not forget that they had to deal with three different QB's cadences(sp?)as well as the "D" line knowing the plays.

Some of the offsides penalties can easly be attributed to that.

Part of the "O" line geling, and the entire offense for that matter, is going to come down to Coehn's ability to make a call on the QB situation early this fall.

All three QB's are pretty close, though Bokoski has the "game" experience, clearly know's the offense better, and seems to have the head on his shoulders to be able to move the chains. Cisnero has come a long way, made some nice throws, but didn't make very good reads and doesnt have the grasp of the offense that Bokoski does. Clark seemed to have problems with reads, and I didn't see many good throws from him. Even though it looks like the staff is looking at Clark with the number of reps he got, I thought his performance put him behind Cisnero.

It will be interesting to see how long Coehn waits

None of the QBs ``clearly'' knew much. The vested interests here -- friends, relatives, whatever -- are not fooling anybody.

At the game-I think the problem with the offense was that the offensive line could not get things together. Whether this be because of injuries to the two starters or simply not enough talent. I think the best way to ease a quarterback along is to give him the proper protection and make him feel safe. Lets hope Rackley gets healthy and some of those big incoming freshman on the sideline can make an immediate impact.

Did any of the QB's emerge as the clear cut starter going into the season?

No....Bokosky may know the offense the best, but has the weakest arm. Cisneros and Clark have physical capability, but no one grabbed the position. Coen has said the position is up for grabs in August....If we don't have any of the three step up by mid-season, we might even see the highly touted freshman, Lum, from Michigan...

Only interesting if the QB spot get worked out. If not, it will be a long season.
