Nice win, considering McNaughton is really the only reason our team is "good" - and our freshman class isn't as good as the rest of the league ;)

Another tough road game this week at AU. Here's hoping for a similar effort (without the foul troubles for the big guy).

Following it on gametracker, it looks like the Bison got great play off the bench from Vegotsky, Brown, and Griffin. However, what happened to Tarik? Hopefully nothing serious.

Vegotsky continues to impress. Very nice game by Brown too.

Really would like to see Bettencourt get it going though...

Bison starters and Bison bench each played 80 minutes. Selected stats for the bench, followed by the stats for the starters:

Pts: 41 (Bench), 33 (starters)
Rebs: 22, 21
Steals: 5, 5
Blocks: 3, 1
Assists: 4, 10
TO's: 8, 10

Looks like the bench "won" today.

Other interesting stats:

Leading rebounder: Griffin and Bettencourt tied with 8
Leading Shotblocker: Griffin with 2

Lee had 4 steals in the first half alone. Griffin had two as well.

Anyone know why Tarik played only 1 early minute, even though McNaughton hardly played in the 1st half due to foul trouble?

They have got to find a way to get Vegotsky more minutes. He is looking great. When they are playing a small opponent, it would be interesting to see Vegotsky start instead of Mastropaolo.

Also, Vetgotsky and Griffin's play is a good sign for next year. Right now, replacing Bettencourt and Lee with Vegotsky and Griffin does not like it will be a huge step down for the Bison.

Griffin and Vegotsky will no doubt see a lot of playing time next year. However, I doubt they would both start against a number of teams. Starting three guards all 6'2" or less would be a problem against our stronger opponents, especially when none are strong rebounders (Griffin's performance today notwithstanding). Although you could get away with three short starters vs Army, Navy, and a couple of other PL teams, I think against the stronger teams that Lee's replacement will come from among Brown, John Clark (assuming he makes a miraculous recovery from his foot ailments), and, later in the season, one of the incoming freshmen (Behan, Evans, and Tyree). Tyree is listed as a guard (6'3" - 6'4")but is very strong and athletic and could play the 3 the way Lee has. If Flannery were to pull off the longshot of landing Nash, then he might get into the running as well, since he is likely better than the other recruits.

dont look now, but jason vegotsky is leading the patriot league in points per minute. hes currently pouring in 25.6 per 40.

as for next year, its pretty scary to not be terribly worried about losing two multiple all-league performers in bettencourt and lee. between griffin and vegotsky we can replace bettencourts overall offensive production, if not his clutch shooting, at the 2. lee, obviously, is harder to replace. its hard to predict how things will break down at this point, but i think brown will get the starts there.

Rebounds tell a huge part of this story.. BU 47 - Navy 30.

BU Fan - good point about the nucleus for next year. Seeing Brown, Vegotsky and Griffin carry this team today certainly bodes well for the future.

I don't think hoisting 28 threes was exactly the way they drew it up before the game - but it worked out in the end.

Go check out the very nice quote by the Navy coach about the Bucknell "team" in Hooptime.

Saw the game at Alumni Hall today ... officiating in the 1st half was atrocious! Flannery got a well-deserved technical for arguing a BS (one of many) calls. However, the Bison clearly pulled away from Navy 7 minutes or so into the 1st Half.

I completely agree with BUFan -- Vegotsky was impressive. Absolutely on fire. In the 2nd half, Flannery tooled around with a great lineup of McNaughton, Bettencourt, Vegotsky, Badmus, and Lee. Mastropaolo was ineffective.

Bettencourt was better than his stats lead one to believe and I was also impressed with the guts and effort of Griffin. He plays his heart out on the hardwood. I swear I was there, but I am not sure why Tarik didn't get the minutes once McNaughton was benched after the first two minutes of the game.

All in all, ugly start of the game, but the "team" in teamwork was on display and was great to witness.

Didn't bother asking Pat about Tarik in postgame, but I would venture a guess that his limited minutes were more or less the result of the matchups. Navy played four guards a lot, so Pat could go with Mastropaolo and Brown up front when McNaughton sat in the first half.

Brown gave them a more athletic, quicker guy to guard Greg Sprink. Between him and Charles Lee, they held Sprink to 3 points (1-7 from the field, 0-4 on 3s).

In the second half, McNaughton avoided further foul trouble, and he and Mastropaolo split a lot of the minutes at the 5.
