Let's keep in mind that HC played Lafayette at home and Army. Bucknell played two road games including the 20+ against Navy...a team they were 5 and 28 against in 33 previous trips to Annapolis....and 1 and 14 against at Alumni Hall. Nobody in the league ever plays well there because the lighting is so wierd that it is really tough to shoot. We'll be just fine agains HC at home.

Although I am worried a little about the HC game (but do think we will win it), I am not at all worried that the American game was so tight. I have heard a lot of people (especially on the HC board) claiming that Bucknell is overrated based on their performance at American. I would respond to that claim by saying 2 things:

1. Bucknell had never won at Bender, so any W for them is a big accomplishment. I was at the game at Bender last year, and I know that the AU students stay pretty into the game making it a tough environment.

2. Bucknell does not play a style condusive to blowout W's. Since Bucknell stresses defense so much, they can completely dominate an opponent while winning by single digits. Case and point is the St. Joes game. That was as dominating of a performacne I have seen Bucknell play over the past 4 years. However, they dominated by consistently forcing St. Joes to run down the whole shot clock and then put up an ugly shot. When that happens, you are not going to win by a huge margin b\c you get fewer possessions. Blowouts tend to happen with run and gun teams that can put up 100. To me, 58-50 is just as convincing as 100-75. I am not saying Bucknell dominated American, but it was still a solid effort all around (especially when considering the cold shooting).

I'm somewhat concerned about Bettencourt and to a lesser extent McNaughton. The team has seemed to be out of sync since the St. Joes game. While I completely agree that the American game should not be viewed as a "bad" win, the team has struggled. Griffen and Vegotsky picked up the slack at Navy and Lee was the savior last night, but in order to get to the NCAA, we're going to need Bettencourt to start hitting the 3s. Just my thoughts.
