if you register and log in, as opposed to visiting, it works well. it shows when new posts have been made and automatically steers you to those rather than sifting through ones you already read.

upon registering you can also choose between threaded and flat display modes, decide whether you want topics to be expanded or collapsed, change posts displayed per page, et cetera....
