Looking forward to the matchup. The John Griffin story will be particularly interesting to watch unfold as he is the son of a former Hawk coach.

I was told that Martelli made the comment. We have Bucknell and the Buckeyes coming up. First the JV and then the varsity.....or something to that nature. If Martelli truly made this statement than he is a tad on the arrogant side. Martelli is an overrated coach who couldn't recruit good enough kids off of an elite 8 appearance to be competitive this season. Nelson and West took that team to the Elite 8 and it is becoming clear that Phil had not much to do with it. You would think the start of this season would have humbled him. Apparantly not. After beating Niagra, Bucknell appears to have the talent to give the Hawks a good game....even if they are just a "JV" team. Classless.

Classless? - you must be kidding. Phil Martelli is one of the most solid and upstanding individuals not only in college basketball, but in all walks of life.

As for recruits, we had locked up our scholarships before the tournament run. The impact of that is seen in our stellar incoming class we have signed up for next year.

If Bucknell is on the 05-06 schedule look forward to taking a beating from them.

Find the quote in print before you comment on it please.
Part of coaching is recruiting by the way. Another part is getting the team to gel and having players understand their roles. Your post is JV and classless. To the other fans, good luck on Tuesday. Looking forward to a good game.

It doesn't have to be in print to be inappropriate. I was simply pointing out that one good season does not give them the right to look down on opponents. These games serve a good purpose for both the bigger conference and smaller conference schools. It is a unique feature that is a great part of college basketball. In response to the point that recruiting is delayed, this is true, and I admit that was an incorrect statement. But it was an arrogant, careless, rather than classless, comment that a team with victories over only Davidson, UC Davis, and Fairfield should not be able to make. I think the Hawks will win this game, but I also know that Bucknell is a better team then Drexel....we all know how that went. 'Ray Bucknell

If Phil didn't respect your school he wouldn't have added you to the schedule. He creates the schedule for men's hoops, not our AD.

Hawks are down this year.
We had a great season last year even though
we got crushed by Xavier in the A-10 championshop
game.
Martelli is class. He bought the team memory rings
for last years 27-0 regular season record.
We did make a mistake by not going after LeBron
James harder. With him we would have won it all
last year.

"It doesn't have to be in print to be inappropriate. I was simply pointing out that one good season does not give them the right to look down on opponents."

First, try 3 of the 4 last seasons have been at least "good" with last year being "outstanding"

Second, it does have to be in print for it to be inappropriate. Phil doesn't say things like that and if you can't find a source other than your head don't be going off blasting the man. Obviously, you were just looking for an excuse to do so.

For being a student/grad from a school that prides itself on academics you certainly sound rather ignorant.

Why stop with the record of the last 4 years. If you look at the last decade of Hawk basketball, Saint Joseph's has received 7 bids from post season tournaments: (4 NCAA and 3 NIT). Not too bad for a school of similar size, liberal arts focus and academic quality as Bucknell.

Whether the comment was in print or not, Phil hit the nail on the head. Look no further than the lack of a line on this game as proof that it's no more than a J.V. tilt.

Guess you aren't modest afterall. You are also unable to cite a source for your own rumors. Likely because Phil never made that comment. Regardless congratulations on the win. We have two opportunities for payback and the guys below will have something to say about those games.

ooh, we're scared of your big bad recruits. Hope they're better than those three stud freshman you have this year that combined for 7 pts and 3 rbds last night. get over yourselves.
