The only thing I can think of is the body lift makes it easier to get it installed, but I don't know why it wouldn't work without. When I installed it, the only thing changed with the suspension was about 2" lift of the torsion bars. I guess it may depend on the header. Some may be designed to route differently so that you have to use a body lift with it. Who knows.
I just wish I could have waited until they went to stainless. Mine is the Ceramic coated version. Holds up fairly well to the N.E. winters, but it ain't perfect.
