I do have a decent amount of weight in the back.
I have a 200 lb topper (shell, cap, whatever you want to call it) and my usual crap that is stored back there.
Probably about 250-300 lbs total.
That and I have snow tires.
I can usually go forward fairly well, but stopping can be a problem (front tires are worn more than rear, long story).
When I drove around during the first snow this year, I still had my summer tires on. I could barely move!
Then again, they are wide sport truck tires.
Interesting thing happened yesterday in a parking lot:
Lot is gravel, covered in ice/snow. My wife was there sledding with my son, she was able to drive in and out easily, including head in parking. While she was there, a car tried to do a u-turn, ended up sliding into a pole (stepped on the brakes too hard I expect) and a van got stuck in a small pot hole. I'm assuming both vehicles had radial tires, otherwise the van wouldn't have gotten stuck, and the car would have had better control doing the u-turn (probably would have hit the pole anyway).
Not trying to preach, but my experience has been very good with snow tires.
Sorry for the long winded post,
Todd
