OK, first of all, I'd like to appologize for not posting sooner :-)
Turns out the grinding in my driveshaft is because of a driveshaft flange rubbing on the carrier bearing. It's temporarily fixed by adjusting the bearing back as far as it will go in it's factory mount.
I can drive it (woohoo!) and I haven't noticed any vibrations - yet.
It's still necessary for me to get my rear half shaft extended by about an inch, no matter what I do (besides the one piece thing).
BTW - the one piece thing is harder to do because of the legnth of my truck and the type of connection it has to the tranny. The people I've talked to don't recomend it. The people that have said, "Ya we can do that", keep thinking I have a transfer case!
Second item:
How much effect do the front shocks have on ride height? I've got to find out why my drivers side front is sitting 2-3" lower than the pass. side.
This is a somewhat recent development, and unfortunatly, I'm suspecting it's something to do with the torsion bars - that I put on not more than 3 months ago :(
Also, about shocks, what difference will there be mounting shocks upside down?
The type of mounting my truck uses in the front, I can use a '80 camaro rear shock upside down and have it fit to the height I need it.
In the rear I can use a T100 4x4 rear shock and have the height I need.
Thanks for reading this far, and for any comments!
