Just thought that I'd get you all thinking. We holidayed in Lefkos this year, and enjoyed it so much that we are going back next June. The village itself is tiny, just a dozen tavernas and a few shops that are nothing more than someone's front room fitted out with shelves and selling the basics.

The village beach is lovely, but unfortunately textile. The nude beaches are a short (10 minute) walk along a rough track, but when you get there they are great sandy stretchs interspersed with rocky outcrops. The are NO facilities, so you need to carry any food, drink, shelter and air beds that you might require, but it is well worth it, the water is clear and the snorkelling great. The beaches are large enough to feel spacious, and were never crowded when we were there (June/July). Only drawback is that the further beaches require a scramble to get to, but the closer one is very easy.

We arrived on June17th and there was plenty of accommodation available. We had booked direct to the 'Blue Horizon' studios which were lovely, but quite a walk into the village (and then you have to take account of the walk from there to the beach). Because of that we have booked another apartment closer to the village, but if you intend to have a car for your entire holiday, then you couldn't chose a nicer, more peaceful base.

I am full of praise for Olympic Airways, with whom we flew. We booked from Manchester to Athens, and then to Karpathos. All went smoothly with them transferring the luggage at Athens, so we didn't have to bother. On the way home we did a week on Rhodes, staying in Faliraki and taking advantage of the beach there. Then we flew direct home with ThomsonFly.

If you like an unhurried holiday, full of sun and sand and without hassle, then Lefkos would be for you. While we were there we got told that there will soon be a direct flight from the UK. In my opinion this will spoil both the resort and the island. This year we didn't meet another Brit on holiday, and most of the other holidaymakers were either Scandinavian or Austrian, with their attendant good manners and behaviour. We really felt the contrast when we arrived in Rhodes!!!

Go while you can, and while it is so unspoilt. You will get a holiday unlike anything you have had before!!!
