Date Posted: Sun, September 21 2008, 14:10:15 Just back from Crete where we spent some time in Paleochora and Plakias Paleochora - Sandy Beach remains naturist at the north end of the beach. The sand and sea are both lovely and clean, and there are showers on the beach. There are sunbeds and parasols for rent at 5 euros a day. The only clothed people we saw on the beach were Barefooters arriving and departing and a few others who were walking up and down who didnt bat an eyelid. (or perhaps had just come up for a look!) We saw couples and families every day. No tavernas actually on the beach, but one just behind at the northern end and others a little bit further south, on the road. Plakias - not too sure about compass directions here, but the beach furthest left as you look at the sea remains naturist with Barefooters occupying the last 3 groups of sunbeds and parasols which were 5 euros a day. The Palegremnos Taverna at the back of the beach is very nice for lunch. There are also showers on the beach here. There is a nice beach bar for drinks but you have to be clothed as it is just off the naturist section. Again, we saw couples and families every day. The beach and the sea at the naturist end is actually a lot nicer than further back towards town with no rocks and pebbles which you see more of the further towards town you get. With both beaches it was good to not have to walk miles to get to the naturist section, as we have had to do in previous years. Also, although sunbeds and parasols sometimes spoil the beach, in both places they weren`t too regimented, had loads of space inbetween and were absolutely a necessity as it was so hot.
