 Following yesterdays post we returned to Aghios Giorgios today. This time we drove further along the track than before, so here are my impressions.

Firstly I'll just say that the track off the main road is no more difficult than similar tracks in England. There are no nasty surprises (steep falls, hairpin bends etc), but you do have to take care as there is loose shale and the occasional rock to catch the unwary, but you have been warned. We estimate that it took us 15 to 20 minutes from the road to the beach.

The first 2 beaches are huge. About 500 yards each (I am told that my original estimates were wildly over optimistic - sorry), and the first time we went we walked the full length naked. Today there were groups of textiles visible from the track, so we carried on. The smaller beach I mentioned before was similarly infested with the clad, so on we went. We reached a sign for 'Mavros Kavos Beach' and followed the track there. We found one largish sandy bay (150 yards) and two smaller coves between this and the previous ones.

We managed to settle on the larger one, and had it to ourselves for the entire afternoon.

I would highly recommend these beaches to those who like 'wilder' beaches, without amenities or frills. It took us about 90 minutes from Faliraki, along the main road south to Prassonisi. Altogether a great day out, and a break from the more established beach.

I shall pass all this info on to the captain on my return to the UK
