People save all year to get away and have a nice holiday somewhere, as nasty as you might think it is, people on the whole do not want to sit in a half empty/boarded up resort. My usual bar which sat on the main street used to be a hub of activity and you could watch the world go by and look into the bars across the street. Last time I went, it was half empty, the bar across the street was derelict and boarded up, the one next to it sat empty and closed, shops and tavernas were closed, empty, boarded up etc....
