Subject: Two Rogers County Sons

Dear Rogers County,
I recently was able to visit the American cemetery at Colleville Sur Mer, Omaha beach. I met a Frenchman and his son who have adopted the graves of two troopers buried there. The troopers are brothers from Rogers county and are buried next to each other. One was in the 501st and the other the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiments of the 82nd Airborne Division.
The Frenchman, Jean Bernard Valogenes (JB), takes flowers there on Memorial Day and on other occasions. JB is getting his son involved to assure the tradition and meaning of what he is doing will be passed to the next generation. JB lives in the village of Ste Mare Eglise where some of the D day troopers from both the 101st and 82nd landed.
JB asked if I could get a small sample of soil from the brothers’ native state, Oklahoma, to sprinkle on their graves. I think it would be more meaningful if JB could get soil from the brother’s home town or close to where they grew up. I do not know what where in Rogers county they came from but I do have the information from their grave markers as follows:

Lanton Robert
PFC 502
Oklahoma 13 June 44
C.7.12

Lanton Norman
Cpl 501
Oklahoma 11 Nov 44
C.7.11

If Rogers county is able to help, I will be glad to send the soil to him. Please contact me by email to coordinate getting it to my address.

Thank you,

David M Glenn

Thanks, David. You also honor us with your post.

I'll check around and see if I can find out anything about the two Rogers County Hero's you mentioned.

Bryan,
They are talking about the Lantow brothers whom the football field is named after.
