Dan- I knew your Father well. He was in my watch section of the 5th Division Radio Gang for a short time. Always smiling, he was a good guy to be with. Many other EURYALE radiomen knew him and I hope they also write. I believe that he developed an eye infection which worsened after we arrived in Fremantle (Aust) after leaving the Admiralty Islands. He was transferred off the ship to a shore hospital in Hollywood, Western Australia (near Perth/Fremantle) and did not return to the ship. I had heard that he was transferred to a tropical disease hospital in the States but don't know if that is true.
So glad to hear that he did recover and returned to raise a family. I can't recall his home town before the Navy, but we did share many late night watches in the Radio Shack, drank coffee together and talked about what we would done "back home". I am glad he did it. Remember him well- he did his part.
