Both first time litter's were 3 puppies. The second litter for one of my females was 5 puppies. I hear that the average is 3-4. But on a first time litter can be less. A bitch will begin to lactate any where between two weeks and three days before delivery. A bitch can also have what is called a "false pregnancy" this happens when a bitch has mated but it was not succesful. When it is a false pregnancy she will lactate, gain wait and nest like a pregnant dog would do but without the out come of puppies.
