Our dog is a fear aggressive dog. She is a 2 year old female chocolate lab. Her aggression seemed to be getting worse (usually just with strangers and other dogs) but recently she starting going after our other (male, older) dog.We were hoping that spaying her would help calm her down. We had her spayed 4 days ago. Vet said she had a puppy (one) that was being absorbed by her body. We were astonished as we are positive she has only been around our other male dog who was fixed 7 years ago?? Anyway, since we brought her home she has been carrying a dog toy around and being very protective of it. She whines and shakes and tries to dig at carpet under kitchen table and in our back yard she keeps digging holes. I'm assuming she is having some kind of false labor but she is becoming more aggressive. She is starting to growl if I come near her when she has the toy (which is always) I have to take the toy from her or she won't eat or even go to the bathroom. I give it back to her after she goes to the bathroom or eats. She isn't eating much. Everything is revolving around this toy. I'm concerned about her aggressive behavior. Is this just a symptom of false pregnancy/labor or because she lost this puppy? How long will it last? Should I continue to allow her to tote the toy around or should I take it from her/or slowly take away little each day or will she just eventually abandon/bury it?
