I don't think it >>"marks the beginning of the end" as you may suggest. Science Fiction genre eventually runs out of ideas. Modern Sci-Fi draws heavily on Physics and this New Version of Doctor Who seems to have forgotten about that. It is kinda like a dumped down version of Doctor Who, without the scientific subtleties sneaked in the way they were with the original series... so what we see are some dumb stories with a Vampire and a Werewolf, very stupid indeed! Not at all up to the standard of the original Doctor Who, yet other aspects of the NEW Who are utterly remarkable and fantastic. "The Runaway Bride" is an excellent show! Many of the shows are really excellent! The Werewolf story had a KungFu beginning, and other very interesting elements that added depth and resolution to the story. Jon Pertwee demonstrated some Martial Arts and Hypnosis, and Doctor Who should incorporate some of those elements from the past, and not try to make the Doctor into Mr. Spock. I guess the producer missed a lot of important details from the original, yet he has added some really great additions, such as the flying Tardis on the Highway chasing after a car. I loved that scene! Or the UFO crashing into Big Ben. Or the lone Dalek opening itself up showing a vulnerable side, something previously unheard of for a Dalek.
