You just are a groupie. You don't strive to be one. Understand that...and you will be well on your way.
Be yourself and true to your own style. Don't try to look or act like anyone else...you are the best when being comfortable in your own skin! This will set you apart from the rest!
Start by looking on the concert site,Pollstar. That will give you the band's tour schedule. If they are in town the night before the gig (ie:they don't have a show scheduled)then go to the hotel and hit the lobby bar. All bands end up there at some point in the night. The hotel with the tour buses parked outside would be the one to stop at!
If they are not in town the night before, try to show up at the gig early and get noticed. Sound check is almost always about 3-4pm (if every one shows up on time) and lasts about 30-45 minutes if it is just a couple of bands. After that, there is free time when the guys will be wandering about at their leisure.
Never be judgmental...this will inhibit you. Be free spirited and up for anything...with in your own limits, of course.
Don't be full of "fan fare" questions. This will make you seem like all you have to do in the day is surf the net finding out about the band. They don't want this from their groupies. They want attention, sex, friendship, to be taken care of,etc. They can be bothered by questions about a song all day from the people hanging out on the side walk wanting autographs.
Realize that you are not the only girl they may have on the road...and don't get clingy. Give the guy you conquered your phone number and if he doesn't call, don't sweat it. Just bask in the great time you had with them. And then move on to the next band!
Always be nice and flirty with the local security guards. They can let you slip by the barriers if they like you. On one instance, my friend wanted to see Robert Plant when she lived in NYC. She didn't have a ticket but went up early to see if she could catch him on his way into the Beacon. She didn't see him for a while and chatted up a security watching the backstage door. After a while, she had to use the ladies room so she asked him if she could use the one backstage really quickly. He let her in the door and told her to have fun for the night! She did!
And most importantly, hold yourself with respect and confidence. This will send off the right signals! That is what gets you noticed.
Have fun girly! Enjoy the moment and don't plan beyond that!
