Subject: True for team with LOW expectations !
In reply to: the assistant 's message, "holiday tourney games" on 08:46:58 01/02/08 Wed

This is true for a team with no experience or inferior players.

You stated the obvious reasons why the games are meaningless, ESPECIALY in th elosers bracket.

"Coaches coach these games differently, but they always have the intent to win. Heck Refs officiate the game differently to keep them moving."

But this is SUPPOSED to be ne of the best teams in NH with a bevy of players who are sUPPOSED to be the best in NH.

IF this is true, then the wins are indeed meaningless.

BUT if you believe that any wins Alvirne got in the losers bracket of that tourney mean anything, then they are not a top team at all and their players are VASTLY OVERRATED.

So.....Which is it ?

You made the case perfectly for why these games mean nothing when you get back to the regular season schedule.

"Coaches coach these games differently, but they always have the intent to win. Heck Refs officiate the game differently to keep them moving."

The intent to win is FAR different from coaching the game to win. In these tournaments, virtually every coach is giving plaiyng time ot players who will never see the floor during the competetive part of a regular season game. This is certainly true once a team falls into the losers bracket of any tournament. Its a guarantee if you end up having to play a team you will see later during your regular season. No intelligent coach is going to give away anything he is schemeing for an opponent in a xmas tournament game.

Again, I agree that it can help a very young team with inexperienced players, but it is useless to determining the success a good team will have in its remaining 16 or so games.
