Sorry if I misunderstood you. I thought that Butch had come over for dinner and you were uncomfortable with it. My view is that your job is to make it out of this situation with your sanity intact. Do what ever it takes to do so. That is your first step. You can not be an effective parent when you have a lot of craziness going on. The second is to be a good parent. Having your ex-wife over can be a good thing for the kids, but if you two can’t at least keep it cordial then it is a bad thing for both you and the kids.

As for Butch’s dirty looks, well she views you as competition for your ex-wife. Sort of like a woman bringing her ex-boyfriend home to her husband. My guess is your wife is still interested in keeping some relationship with you (not husband wife but parents ect.). Your wife is still interested in the kids and Butch is forced to be dragged along (or she will lose her catch).

Butch probably pretty much only wants your wife and is not as crazy about the rest of the package (i.e. Kids, ex-husband).
