Like almost everyone else involved in Straight Spouse Network, I am indeed a straight spouse, and I am a practicing Christian as well. My ex came out a number of years ago and I experienced at least some of what everyone else did. My response, once I got my head back on straight (no pun intended) was to volunteer for Straight Spouse network, and my duties include managing this board.

My ex was a Christian too. In her mind, she couldn't be a lesbian because lesbians are bad and go to hell. But that is what she was, and by midlife she couldn't take it anymore.

I could debate what the bible does or does not say about homosexuality, or what evidence there is about the causes are but that would be pointless here. What I have learned is that it exists, that it can't be prayed away, and that it doesn't change. Why (in a religious sense) it exists I cannot say or know.

Was I upset? Sure I was.... I spent 20+ years with someone who could never be happy with the life we had, the life that she was convinced she wanted. I felt those years were stolen from me. However, when I look at my kids.... I know it was worthwhile.

I don't believe that accepting gay exists will lead to our demise. I do know some flavors of Christianity will never accept it. And because of that, Straight spouse Network will continue to need to exist.
